If you’re having trouble with your HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor on Windows 10 and can’t find a compatible driver, here’s a simple way to fix it by manually installing an older driver. Although this method was once effective, it might not work for everyone now, but it’s worth trying.
First, you need to remove any existing drivers or software related to HP 3D DriveGuard. This way, the sensor appears as an unknown device in your device manager, making it ready for the new driver.
Next, download the driver package from HP’s archive. You can find it here: HP 3D DriveGuard Driver. Do not run the file after downloading; just save it on your computer.
Then, download a free file extraction utility called 7-Zip, which allows you to unpack the driver files. Get it from 7-Zip’s official website. After installing 7-Zip, locate the driver file you downloaded, right-click on it, select “7-Zip,” then choose “Extract to” and let it extract into its own folder named after the driver (usually something like “sp58201”).
Once the files are extracted, go to your device manager. Find your unknown device which needs the driver, right-click it, and choose “Update Driver.” Select “Browse my computer for driver software” and navigate to the folder where you extracted the files. Make sure to check “Include subfolders,” then hit “Next,” and Windows should install the driver for you.
This process should help get your Mobile Data Protection Sensor working again. If not, it might be worth checking for updated drivers or hardware support from HP or considering a hardware upgrade.
