If you’re using Sequoia and notice that Cantonese text-to-speech only works in Pages but not in other apps, here’s a simple solution to fix that. You might have already set your System Speech Language to Cantonese and chosen the Sinji voice, but still see the text spoken as Mandarin. This can be frustrating, but the fix is straightforward.

First, go to your device’s Settings. From there, navigate to Accessibility, then to Spoken Content. Look for the System Voice option and tap the info icon (usually a small circle with an “i”). Under the list of options, select Chinese.

Next, find the Spoken Language list—there should be four options—and tap on Cantonese to set it. Doing this will ensure your device recognizes Cantonese correctly and that the text-to-speech works properly across all apps, not just Pages.

Applying this change usually resolves the issue. If you want more details or see others talking about this, you can check out the discussion on the Apple Community forum linked here: Text to speech not working for Cantonese.
