If you’re trying to find drivers for your printer but only see options up to macOS 12, it can be frustrating. This often happens because the official drivers aren’t available for newer macOS versions. Here’s a simple way to resolve this issue, but keep in mind it’s a bit of a workaround and comes with some risks.
When I faced this problem, I used an older driver from my previous Mac. I had bought my MacBook Air M1 three years ago, and it was running an older macOS version. Even after updating the system, the old printer drivers were still stored on my device. These drivers worked on older versions and, surprisingly, still worked with my current macOS Tahoe.
Here’s what I did:
1. On my old Mac, I located the printer driver files.
2. I transferred these files to my new Mac.
3. Before using them, I went into my System Preferences’ Privacy Settings and allowed the driver to run.
Doing this allowed my printer to work again without needing the latest official drivers. Since both devices belonged to me, I didn’t see much security risk, but I must emphasize this isn’t a recommended method for everyone. Sharing driver files can potentially expose your system to security vulnerabilities. Use this approach only if you’re confident in the source of the files and understand the risks involved.
