If you want to update your HP computer’s BIOS, here’s a simple and safe method to do it, especially if you’re running Windows 10. The key is to avoid doing the update within Windows itself, which can sometimes cause issues. Instead, you’ll use your computer’s BIOS setup to perform the update. Here’s how:

First, get a USB flash drive and make sure to format it with the FAT32 file system. This prep step is important because the BIOS update process needs a properly formatted drive.

Next, download the latest BIOS update file from HP’s website using this link: HP BIOS update download page. Once there, click on the link ending with “.exe” to save the file to your computer.

Before running the update, you’ll need to prepare the files. Run the downloaded .exe file once. This will create a folder on your C: drive, usually located at C:\SWSetup\sp73584. Inside that folder, you’ll find an information webpage (.html) file and a set of files needed for the BIOS flashing process.

Open the info page if it doesn’t open automatically after running the file. You can do this by navigating to the folder and opening the HTML file. The page provides detailed instructions. A particularly useful part is the “View contents of the DOS flash folder” link. Click on it, then copy all the files from that folder directly onto your USB flash drive, but not the folder itself—only the files.

Once your USB is prepared, restart your computer and press the F10 key as it boots up. This will bring you into the BIOS setup menu. From there, use the arrow keys to navigate to the “File” tab. Choose the “Flash System ROM” option.

Insert your USB flash drive into the computer. The system should recognize the BIOS update files on the drive. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the BIOS update process. It’s important not to turn off the computer or remove the USB during this process.

Remember, you should stay patient while the update runs, as it might take a few minutes. When it’s finished, your computer will restart with the BIOS updated to the latest version.

This method ensures a safe and effective BIOS update without risking issues that sometimes happen when updating from within Windows. Just follow the steps carefully, and your system will be up to date in no time.
