If you’re looking to upgrade your PC to Windows 11 and run into issues, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a simple guide to help you upgrade by addressing a common problem related to BIOS settings.

First off, it’s great to know that your PC meets the minimum requirements for Windows 11, especially with its Intel i7-8550U processor. However, the issue you may be facing is that the Secure Boot option in your BIOS is grayed out due to the system running in legacy mode. This can be easily fixed, and you have a couple of options.

Accepted Solution:

Option 1: Clean Install of Windows 11 in UEFI Mode

  1. Backup Your Files: Before proceeding, make sure to back up any important files to an external hard drive. This ensures that you won’t lose any data during the reinstallation process.

  2. Create a Bootable USB Drive: Download the Windows 11 installation files using the Media Creation Tool provided by Microsoft. You can find it here. Use this tool to create a bootable USB drive.

  3. Boot from the USB Drive: Restart your PC and start it up from the USB flash drive. Make sure it’s recognized as a UEFI drive and not in legacy mode. You may need to adjust your BIOS settings to do this.

  4. Install Windows 11: Follow the prompts to install Windows 11. The installation should proceed smoothly since you’re now using UEFI mode.

Option 2: Convert MBR to GPT

If you prefer to keep your current setup and just change the boot configuration, you can convert your system from MBR (Legacy) to GPT (UEFI):

  1. Backup Your Files: Again, back up your files to ensure safety during the conversion.

  2. Follow a Tutorial on Conversion: Check out this helpful video on how to convert from MBR to GPT here. It provides a step-by-step guide on how to make this change without losing data.

  3. Restart Your PC: After the conversion, restart your PC. As it powers back up, tap the ESC key to access the boot menu.

  4. Enter BIOS Setup: Select the F10 setup option and press Enter to enter the BIOS settings.

  5. Adjust BIOS Settings: In the BIOS, turn off Legacy Mode and enable Secure Boot. Save these settings and exit.

  6. Upgrade to Windows 11: Now you should be all set to upgrade to Windows 11 without any hassles.

By following either of these methods, you’ll configure your PC correctly and be able to enjoy the features that Windows 11 offers. Remember, taking the time to back up your files is essential to avoid potential data loss. Good luck with your upgrade!
