If you’re looking to set up Amazon Connect in China, it’s important to know that the service isn’t available directly in the Beijing or Ningxia regions at this time. Amazon Connect is accessible in many other parts of the world, like the United States, Europe, Asia Pacific (including Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, and Sydney), and some regions in Canada and Africa. Unfortunately, China’s Beijing and Ningxia regions are not supported for this service yet.
However, there are alternative options for telephony needs in China. Starting in the first quarter of 2026, Amazon Connect introduced a special China National Calling Private Offer. This service is available through a telecom partner named Purple Stone Telecom, and it’s designed mainly for large multinational companies that have operations outside China but still need phone numbers in China.
Under this private offering, you can get:
- China Direct Inward Dialing (DID) numbers in cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou.
- China toll-free numbers, including 400 and 800 numbers.
These are available for use across all commercial Amazon Connect regions, but not directly within Chinese regions.
Who can access this service? It’s mainly intended for companies that meet specific criteria:
- They are multinational firms with official business registration in China.
- Their main business activities are outside China.
- Their headquarters are outside China.
- They need China DIDs or toll-free numbers to support customers, sales, or regional offices.
There are two ways to receive these numbers:
- External Agents (Direct Sale) – Amazon provides the numbers directly, with billing handled together.
- Inside China (Shared Trunking) – Customers work directly with Purple Stone Telecom and then connect the numbers to their Amazon Connect instance through a third-party mapping service.
If your company qualifies and wants to request these numbers, you need to submit a support case through your standard support process. The approval process typically takes about five business days and requires documents such as your Chinese business license, ID of the responsible person, completed forms, signatures, and company seals.
For outbound calls to China made from regions outside China, there are some strict rules as of October 14, 2023:
- Calls must be to known businesses or users that have already interacted with your company.
- The caller ID used must be an Amazon Connect DID—numbers from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, China, or Singapore are not allowed.
- The number of calls per minute from a single caller ID is limited to five.
- Each call must last at least 15 seconds.
- The calls cannot be unsolicited marketing or high-volume automated calls.
- Pre-approval and allowlisting are required before making these calls.
Understanding these options can help you navigate telephony services in China smoothly. If Amazon Connect isn’t directly available in your region, these alternative solutions might be the right way to meet your communication needs.
