If you have an HP Victus 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop (model series 16-s0xxx) and are looking to upgrade or replace the M.2 NVMe SSD, you’ve come to the right place. This guide will walk you through the process to ensure you do it smoothly and effectively.
First, it’s important to know that this model supports one M.2 NVMe Generation 4.0 SSD. If you’re unsure of the SSD capacities available for your laptop, you can refer to Chapter 1 of the Maintenance and Service Guide linked below.
You can find the service manual here: Maintenance and Service Guide Victus by HP. This document will provide detailed information about SSD specifications and capacities.
Next, while the service manual mentions two positions for M.2 NVMe SSDs, the teardown video available online generally shows only one. To get a better understanding of how to replace or upgrade the SSD, watch the following video: Removing & Replacing Parts | HP Support.
Now that you have the necessary resources, here’s how to proceed with the upgrade:
-
Gather Your Tools: You’ll need a small screwdriver set, an anti-static wrist strap (if available), and your new M.2 NVMe SSD.
-
Power Down Your Laptop: Make sure to completely shut down your laptop and unplug it from any power source. If possible, remove the battery.
-
Open the Back Cover: Using your screwdriver, carefully remove the screws from the back panel. Gently pry it open with a plastic tool or your hands.
-
Locate the M.2 Slot: Once the cover is off, find the M.2 NVMe SSD slot. Refer to the service manual if needed.
-
Remove the Old SSD (if applicable): If you are replacing an existing SSD, unscrew it and gently slide it out of the slot.
-
Install the New SSD: Align your new M.2 NVMe SSD with the slot and gently insert it. Once it’s fully seated, secure it with the screw.
-
Reassemble Your Laptop: Put the back cover on and screw it back into place. If you removed the battery, reinsert it.
-
Power On Your Laptop: Plug in your laptop and power it on. If you’ve done everything correctly, your system should recognize the new SSD.
- Format the SSD: After booting up, go to your operating system’s disk management settings to format and partition your new SSD.
By following this guide, you can easily upgrade or replace the SSD in your HP Victus laptop. For any further troubleshooting or questions, check the service manual or the support video for additional details. Happy upgrading!
