If you’re trying to create an Azure DevOps organization but are using a Free Trial subscription, you might run into some restrictions. Here’s what you need to know and the steps you can take to get started.
Microsoft’s guidelines indicate that most common Azure subscriptions—like Pay-As-You-Go, Cloud Solution Provider (CSP), or Enterprise Agreement (EA)—allow you to create an Azure DevOps organization. However, Free Trial and Visual Studio benefit subscriptions currently aren’t supported for this purpose, though support is expected to be available by early 2026.
Since you’re using a Free Trial subscription, creating an organization isn’t possible at this moment. But don’t worry, there are a couple of options:
-
Use a different Microsoft account: You can sign up with an account that isn’t linked to a work or school Entra ID and doesn’t have an active Azure subscription. This way, you can create your Azure DevOps organization without needing a paid subscription.
-
Upgrade your subscription: If you want to stick with your current account, consider upgrading your current Free Trial or Student plan to a supported plan like Pay-As-You-Go, CSP, or an Enterprise Agreement. Upgrading will enable you to create and manage your Azure DevOps organization without issue.
Following these steps should help you get your Azure DevOps projects up and running smoothly.
