If your laptop needs a BIOS update, the good news is that it might just be waiting for the right moment through Windows Update. Usually, Microsoft releases an optional update that contains the necessary drivers. You can check for this by going into Windows Update and looking for optional updates. Once you find it, just download and install that update. Keep in mind, this process only updates the driver version—it doesn’t change the BIOS itself.
If you haven’t updated your BIOS before, Windows will handle the entire update process once you install this update. However, I recommend updating your BIOS directly through the manufacturer’s website, such as HP, rather than letting Windows do it. This is because sometimes Windows Update can fail during a BIOS update, which might cause problems or even damage your laptop.
If you’ve already done a BIOS update in the past and Windows Update offers it again, you don’t need to worry. In this case, it’s only updating the driver, not the BIOS, so there’s no risk involved.
Be aware that getting this update from Windows can take anywhere from a month to four months to roll out. But no matter when it arrives, it won’t impact your laptop’s performance—it simply updates the necessary components behind the scenes.
