When looking to upgrade your laptop’s storage, it’s important to know what models support additional drives. If you have the HP Victus gaming laptop with the Intel i7-13700HX processor, you’re in luck! This model supports two M.2 NVMe SSDs, which can significantly enhance your laptop’s performance by allowing more space for games and applications.

Conversely, the 16-r0xxx models featuring Intel ‘H’ series processors are limited to just one M.2 NVMe SSD. This means that if you’re hoping to expand your storage on those models, you’ll need to choose wisely.

For those looking to install or replace an SSD, the process is straightforward. Here’s a simple guide to help you tackle the upgrade like a pro:

  1. Gather Your Tools: You will need a small Phillips screwdriver and your new M.2 NVMe SSD.

  2. Power Down: Ensure your laptop is completely powered off. Disconnect it from any power source and remove the battery if possible.

  3. Open the Laptop: Use the screwdriver to remove the screws on the back of your laptop. Keep them safe as you’ll need them to close up later.

  4. Locate the M.2 Slot(s): According to the service manual for the HP Victus—specifically Chapter 5, page 34—you can easily find where the M.2 slots are located. If you have a model that supports two SSDs, you should see two slots available.

  5. Install the SSD: Carefully remove the existing SSD (if replacing) by unscrewing it from the slot. Align your new SSD with the notch in the slot, slide it in at a slight angle, and then press it down flat before securing it with the screw.

  6. Close Up Your Laptop: Once the SSD is securely in place, replace the back cover of your laptop and screw it in tightly.

  7. Power Up and Format: Turn your laptop back on. Your new SSD should be recognized automatically. You may need to format it to be able to use it for storage through the disk management tool in Windows.

If you need more detailed instructions, feel free to refer to the Maintenance and Service Guide for the HP Victus 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop. You can find it here.

By following these steps, you can successfully increase your storage capacity and enhance your gaming experience. Happy upgrading!
