Are you trying to understand how trusted root certificates work on your Apple devices and how to keep them updated? If so, you’re not alone. Many users find it confusing, especially when updates happen and trust store versions change. Here’s a simple guide to help you figure out your device’s trust store and how to check and update it easily.

First, know that Apple updates the trusted root certificates with each iOS or iPadOS update. These certificates are essential because they keep your device secure by trusting safe websites and apps. To see which trust store version your device has, follow these steps:

  1. Check Your iOS Version
Go to Settings > General > About to see your current iOS or iPadOS version.

  2. Find Out Your Trust Store Version
Currently, Apple doesn’t provide a direct way to see the trust store version from your device. However, you can find this info online by searching for your device’s model and iOS version, or by checking Apple’s support pages that list trust store updates.

  3. Compare Trust Store Versions
For example, if you have an iPhone 12 Pro on iOS 16.3, your trust store version should be around “2022070700” with a Trust Asset Version of “20”. If your device’s trust store is lower than this, consider updating your device to the latest iOS version.

  4. Update Your Device
To make sure your trust certificates are current, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Download and install any available updates. Regular updates ensure your device has the latest security certificates.

  5. Understand the Certificates
Certain older devices, like the iPhone 6 running iOS 12.5.5, may not have the latest trust store versions. If you notice issues with certificates or secure websites, it might be time to upgrade your device or at least update your OS if possible.

  6. Learn More
For detailed info on trusted root certificates and updates, visit Apple’s support page. It explains the trust store updates and helps you keep your device secure.

Remember, regularly updating your device and checking your iOS version are the best ways to keep your device’s trust store current and your data safe. If you find your device’s trust store is outdated and cannot update further, it might be time to consider a newer device to stay protected with the latest security features.
