If you want to loosen a tight contact lens or remove a stuck one safely, here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to help you do it without causing damage or discomfort.

Start by making sure your hands are very clean. Wash them thoroughly with soap and water, and dry them completely. This helps prevent any dirt or germs from getting into your eye.

Next, find a well-lit area and sit comfortably. It’s best to work in front of a mirror so you can see what you’re doing clearly. Use your index finger to gently pull down your lower eyelid, creating a small pocket.

Using your middle finger, pull up your upper eyelid. Be gentle—avoid pressing or squeezing the eye, which can cause discomfort or even damage.

Now, look down so your eye is directed away from the contact lens. This makes it easier to see and access the lens. Using your thumb and forefinger, very carefully pinch the lens between your fingertips. Grip it gently and steadily, avoiding any sudden movements.

If the lens feels stuck, don’t panic. Try gently massaging your eyelid or blinking a few times to encourage the lens to move to a more reachable spot. If it still won’t come out easily, don’t try to force it. Instead, take a break and give your eye a moment to relax.

Should the lens remain stubborn, it’s best to use a few drops of saline solution or contact lens rewetting drops. Rub a small amount on your eye to help loosen the lens. Once you see it move or lift, carefully pinch it out again.

If you’re unable to remove the lens or notice any pain, redness, or discomfort, stop and seek help from an eye care professional. They have the tools and expertise to remove the lens safely.

Remember, never use tweezers or sharp objects on your eye, and avoid rubbing your eye too hard. Patience and gentle handling are key to safely removing a contact lens. Following these steps can help you handle a stuck lens confidently and comfortably.
