If you’re trying to install Windows on a PC with an NVMe SSD, especially if you’ve removed an Intel SSD with onboard Optane memory, you might encounter issues where Windows doesn’t recognize your drive. Don’t worry! This guide will walk you through a solution that makes this process easier.

First, it’s important to note that if you’re using Intel 11th to 13th generation Core processors, you need to load the Intel storage controller drivers. This must be done when Windows cannot find any drives. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do this:

  1. Download Intel Storage Controller Drivers: Start by downloading the necessary Intel storage controller drivers. I’ve zipped those files for easy access.

  2. Unzip and Prepare: Unzip the downloaded files and save them to a USB flash drive. Ensure that this USB is separate from your Windows installation media.

  3. Connect Everything: Plug both the USB drive with the drivers and your Windows installation media into your PC’s USB ports.

  4. Boot from Installation Media: Restart your PC and boot from the Windows installation USB. You may need to change the boot order in your BIOS settings to do this.

  5. Load Drivers: When you reach the screen where Windows says it can’t find any drives, click on the “Load driver” option. Browse to your USB flash drive containing the Intel storage controller drivers.

  6. Select the Right Driver: There will be a checkbox that says, “Include compatible driver.” If Windows doesn’t find your drive, deselect this box and try the drivers listed.

  7. Alternative Recovery Method: If you continue to have trouble, consider using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool. This tool will create a bootable USB recovery drive that reinstalls Windows along with the original drivers and software.

  8. Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool: To use this utility:

    • Download it from the Microsoft Store here.
    • You’ll need a 32 GB USB flash drive.
    • Enter your notebook’s product number (which is 2C5X7UA#ABA) in the tool’s search box to get the right recovery options.

Following these steps should help you successfully install Windows on your NVMe SSD. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Good luck with your installation!
