If you’ve just connected your Dell E190S monitor to your laptop and noticed that the sound is coming from it—despite it having no speakers—you’re not alone. Windows 11 sometimes automatically switches the default audio output to a newly connected device. Luckily, it’s easy to fix this issue and get your laptop’s internal speakers back in action. Follow these simple steps to switch the default audio output.

First, let’s understand the problem: your Dell monitor has become the default playback device, meaning your laptop’s internal speakers are unable to produce sound. To resolve this, we need to manually change the default audio output back to your HP Probook 430 G8’s internal speakers.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Right-click on the Speaker Icon: Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen, near the clock. Right-click on the speaker icon.

  2. Select "Sound Settings": From the menu that opens, click on "Sound settings."

  3. Find the Output Section: In the Sound settings window, locate the area labeled "Output."

  4. Choose Your Device: You should see a dropdown menu or a list showing available playback devices. Click on this menu.

  5. Select Your Laptop Speakers: Look for your laptop’s internal speakers, which might be labeled as "Speakers (Realtek Audio)" or something similar. Make sure it’s different from the "DELL E190S" option.

  6. Test Your Speakers: After selecting your laptop speakers, play some audio to ensure the sound is coming from them.

By following these steps, you’ll redirect the audio output back to your Probook’s internal speakers. Windows should remember this setting for future connections, but if it changes again, you can quickly switch it back using this guide.

Now you’ll be able to enjoy your audio without any hassle. Happy listening!
