If you’re having trouble with your HP 15-cs1022ur laptop after installing a new Samsung 870 EVO SSD, you’re not alone. Many users encounter issues when adding new hardware, but don’t worry. We’ve got a solution for you. Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve the booting problems you’re facing with your laptop.

Start with the basics: make sure the SSD is properly connected. You may have already done this, but it’s worth a second check. Disconnect and reconnect the SSD and the cable carefully to ensure everything is firmly in place.

Now let’s walk through the steps to fix the issue you’re seeing when you power on your laptop. Follow along:

  1. Power Off the Laptop: Completely shut down your laptop. Unplug it from the power source.

  2. Remove the Battery: If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out. This will help reset your system.

  3. Disconnect and Reconnect Hardware: While the battery is out, disconnect the SSD. This can help with the motherboard reset process. Afterward, you can also disconnect the power supply.

  4. Clear CMOS: With the battery and SSD removed, press the power button for about 15 seconds. This step helps discharge any remaining power, effectively resetting the hardware configurations and clearing any existing errors.

  5. Reassemble the Laptop: Reconnect the power supply and insert the battery back into the laptop.

  6. Power on the Laptop: Turn on your laptop without the SSD connected. You might see the CMOS 502 error (checksum mismatch). This is expected during the reset process.

  7. Reboot the Laptop: Allow the laptop to reboot automatically. After it resets the checksums, make sure it powers on successfully.

  8. Reconnect the SSD: Now that the laptop has restarted, it’s time to reconnect the Samsung 870 EVO SSD. Carefully plug it back in along with the cable.

  9. Power On Again: Start the laptop again. In many cases, the SSD should now be recognized without any issues.

If you follow these steps and your laptop still won’t boot with the SSD connected, it could be an incompatibility with the SSD or an issue with the SSD itself, even though it seems to work otherwise. If that’s the case, you might want to try a different SSD compatible with your laptop or reach out to HP support for further assistance.

Troubleshooting can be frustrating, but with the right approach, you can often find a solution. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if needed, and good luck getting your laptop up and running smoothly!
