Customize Your Mac Login Screen Wallpaper: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re looking to personalize your Mac’s login screen without changing your desktop wallpaper, you’ve come to the right place. This simple guide will help you set a custom image as your lock screen background. Just follow these easy steps!

Step 1: Prepare Your Image

  1. Open the Image: Start by opening the image you want to set as your new lock screen background.
  2. Locate the File Name: Click on the file name located at the top-left corner of the image.
  3. Choose “Rename”: Click the “▼” icon next to the file name.
  4. Rename the File: Type in “lockscreen.png” where it says “Name:”.
  5. Select the Storage Location: Make sure to choose “Desktop” for “Where:”.
  6. Confirm the Action: Press the return key to save the changes.

Step 2: Access the Caches Folder

  1. Go to Your Desktop: Click on the Desktop area of your screen.
  2. Open the Go Menu: In the Dock at the bottom of your screen, click on the “Go” menu.
  3. Select Go to Folder: From the drop-down menu, click on “Go to Folder…”.
  4. Enter the Path: Type in the path /Library/Caches/Desktop Pictures in the dialog box that appears.
  5. Open the Folder: Press the return key to navigate to the folder.

Step 3: Move Your Image

  1. Find the File: Double-click through the folders until you find “lockscreen.png”.
  2. Drag and Drop: Drag “lockscreen.png” from your Desktop into the Desktop Pictures folder.
  3. Click Move: A popup will appear—click the “Move” button to proceed.
  4. Replace the Existing File: If prompted, click the “Replace” button to overwrite the existing file.

That’s it! Your new lock screen wallpaper is all set. The next time you lock your Mac, you’ll see your custom image instead of the default wallpaper. Enjoy your personalized touch!
