If you’re having trouble accessing Amazon OpenSearch Service with your free tier account and keep getting redirected to a page asking for billing, signing up, or completing your account setup, it usually means your AWS account hasn’t been fully activated yet.
To get everything up and running, there are a few important steps you need to complete:
1. Add a valid payment method to your account. This doesn’t mean you’ll be charged, but it’s a required step.
2. Verify your phone number to prove your identity.
3. Select an AWS Support Plan, even if it’s just the free Basic support.
Even if you think you’ve finished setting up your account, the redirect to the incomplete signup page means some steps might still be pending. Make sure to check these areas.
Once your account is fully activated, you can access Amazon OpenSearch Service. When creating your OpenSearch domain and sticking to the free tier, remember to:
– Choose “Domain without standby” for deployment.
– Set the “Instance Family” to “General Purpose.”
– Pick “t3.small.search” as your instance type.
The AWS Free Tier for OpenSearch includes up to 750 hours per month of a t2.small.search or t3.small.search instance, plus 10 GB of optional Amazon EBS storage each month.
If you’ve already contacted support but haven’t heard back in over three days, try posting your question on AWS re:Post, which is AWS’s community Q&A platform. Many AWS employees and experienced users there can help you troubleshoot your issue.
