Having trouble with Siri spelling “PAWNS” as “PONDS” when you’re playing chess? If you have a Midwest accent or find that Siri doesn’t recognize the word correctly, here’s a simple trick to fix it once and for all.

First, create a new contact in your phone with the last name “pawns.” Think of it as a placeholder. Once you’ve done that, go into the contact details and choose to edit. Then, add a new field and select “Phonetic Last Name.” In that space, type “ponds” — the correct pronunciation.

Now, when you ask Siri to spell or say “PAWNS,” she’ll interpret it as “pawns” because of the phonetic correction. This quick fix works like telling Siri how to pronounce a name or word that she gets wrong, and most of the time it works instantly.

The only downside? You might end up with a strange contact in your list. But honestly, it’s a small price to pay for clear communication. Give it a try, and you’ll no longer have to correct Siri every time!
