Samsung is making a bold move into artificial intelligence, and its newest innovation extends beyond smartphones and televisions. It’s a luxury wine refrigerator that leverages AI and an integrated camera to monitor, organize, and even interpret your wine assortment. While it may seem over the top, this device exemplifies the future direction of smart home technology.
What exactly does this AI wine refrigerator do?
The latest model, part of Samsung’s premium Infinite series, features an “AI wine manager” driven by a camera mounted atop the unit. It automatically detects when bottles are added or removed, scans their labels, and records essential details like the wine’s name, grape type, and vintage.
This information syncs with Samsung’s SmartThings app, so you can keep track of your collection effortlessly without manual input. The system can even pinpoint the exact location of each bottle inside the fridge.
The Infinite AI Wine Refrigerator can hold up to 101 bottles and is divided into three separate cooling zones, allowing you to maintain ideal temperatures for different types of wine, ranging from 3°C to 18°C. It’s outfitted with UV-blocking glass to preserve the wine’s quality and a low-vibration compressor to minimize disturbances that might affect aging.
Why incorporate AI into a wine fridge?
For wine collectors—whether casual or serious—keeping a clear record of bottles can get complicated quickly. You may forget what you have, where it’s stored, or when it’s best enjoyed. Samsung’s AI technology aims to simplify this process.
By automatically scanning and logging each bottle, the fridge eliminates manual cataloging. You can view your collection from your smartphone, see what’s inside without opening the door, and prevent letting a good bottle sit too long or miss the perfect drinking window.
The camera system also adds a layer of precision that traditional wine fridges can’t match. It transforms your collection into a digital, searchable library rather than just a physical rack.
As expected with this level of convenience, the price is steep. Retailing at approximately $4,300—about 6,499,000 won—Samsung’s AI wine fridge isn’t aimed at casual users with a few bottles. It’s designed for enthusiasts who prioritize optimal storage, organization, and the preservation of long-term value.
Currently, the Infinite AI Wine Refrigerator is available in South Korea. Samsung has not yet announced plans for international release.
