Pokemon Go is gearing up to celebrate the Lunar New Year in 2025 with its annual Lunar New Year Event. This year’s event promises a wealth of new and returning features, ensuring that players have plenty to enjoy.

The event will last for just five days, starting from Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. local time and concluding on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8 p.m. local time. Below, you’ll find all the necessary details to maximize your experience during the 2025 Lunar New Year Event.

Event Bonuses

During the 2025 Lunar New Year Event, players will enjoy two special bonuses revolving around Lucky Pokemon and Lucky Friends:

Increased chances of receiving Lucky Pokemon when trading.
Higher chances of becoming Lucky Friends with fellow players.

Wild Encounter Pokemon

Throughout the event, there will be seven types of Pokemon appearing more frequently in the wild. Be sure to take the opportunity to catch these event-themed Pokemon:

Ekans
Snivy
Onix
Darumaka
Dunsparce
Dratini
Gyarados

Ekans caught during the event will have a greater chance of being Shiny.

Event 2 Km Eggs

During the event, 2 km Eggs obtained will hatch special event-themed Pokemon, replacing the usual hatchlings. Make sure to collect and hatch these Eggs for a chance to receive:

Nosepass
Makuhita
Meditite
Duskull
Skorupi

Nosepass hatched from these Eggs will also have a higher probability of being Shiny.

Event Research

Event Field Research Tasks

As part of the event, every player will receive a Daily Field Research Task, which will grant PokeCoins upon completion, useful for purchasing items from the in-game shop. Additionally, players can gain extra Event Field Research Tasks by spinning PokeStops, giving them the chance to earn Stardust and encounters with event-themed Pokemon.

Event Timed Research

Players can choose to purchase additional Timed Research for $2.00 USD in the Pokemon Go in-game shop. Completing the tasks included will reward you with:

Two Lucky Eggs
One Incubator
Encounters with Ekans and Nosepass

There will also be free Timed Research accessible to all players simply by logging in during the event, rewarding participants with Stardust, XP, and 10 Zygarde Cells.

Event Collection Challenge

Lastly, there will be a Collection Challenge you can complete by catching and evolving specific event-themed Pokemon. Completing this challenge will reward you with some Stardust.
