Most of the optional, open-world activities in Ghost of Yotei are quite simple. You usually follow a path or chase after a fox to reach a certain spot. However, reliquaries are more rare and tricky to find. There is one reliquary in each of Yotei’s main areas, excluding Nayoro Wilds, making a total of five in the entire game. The game’s guiding wind won’t point you to them, and only a vague riddle gives hints about what to do.
Completing a reliquary puzzle will reward you with a charm. If you find and solve all five, you’ll unlock the Child of the Mountain trophy. Some reliquaries are easy to spot during your normal exploration of Yotei’s Ezo map. Others are tucked away or cleverly hidden. Each involves turning pedestals with wolf statues, but each puzzle has a unique solution.
Reliquary of Courage – Location & Solution
The Reliquary of Courage is near the beginning of Yotei’s story in the Yotei Grasslands. It’s almost directly west of Yotei’s Shadow Inn, which is likely one of your first stops. The reliquary sits by a river, with its wolf pedestals scattered among nearby bushes. The riddle for this reliquary reads:
A boy was lost and alone
But wolves came from every corner to guide him
Their eyes gazing at the true Mount Yotei
The solution is straightforward: turn all four nearby wolf statues to face west, toward Mount Yotei. You can turn each statue individually, without affecting the others. Just follow the dirt paths away from the reliquary to find the statues.
Reliquary of Resilience – Location & Solution
Northwest of the Yotei Grasslands, you’ll travel through Serpent’s Pass to reach the Tokachi Range, where the Reliquary of Resilience is located. Follow the right side of the map as you enter this area, and you’ll find it up a hill. Its inscription says:
Within the caverns of Mount Yotei, a lost boy surrendered to a tired sleep
The wolves stood guard
Looking toward the mountain
The puzzle involves turning the wolf statues inward, toward the reliquary, not outward. Turning a statue 90 degrees will turn the next one to the right 180 degrees. The best way is to make sure all four statues are facing either toward or away from the reliquary first. Then, focus on turning each one twice in a counterclockwise direction, always moving to the next statue when done.
Reliquary of Compassion – Location & Solution
The Reliquary of Compassion is the most hidden, located inside a special shrine trail in Teshio Ridge. To find it, go up the Chilled Peak Shrine trail in the north-central part of Teshio Ridge. When you reach a rocky slope, slide down. At the bottom, turn left and follow a frozen pond around a bend. The reliquary is there, with this clue:
The mountain took pity on the boy with no home
And lit her fire to keep the boy warm
The wolves gathered around, eyes on the mountain’s hearth
Use Fire Arrows to light the bundles of wood near each wolf statue to turn them. All four must face the reliquary. To solve it, turn each statue twice, moving counterclockwise from one to the next, until they all face the reliquary.
Reliquary of Strength – Location & Solution
You’ll find the Reliquary of Strength in the Ishikari Plain. It’s directly north of the Matsumae Encampment, where you first enter the region, and straight east from Ishikari Market. The riddle reads:
The mountain raised the boy as her own
Demons looked away from them in fear
But the wolf watched them both, ready to provide aid
Initially, match each wolf statue to the characters in the poem: the boy, the two demons, and the wolf. Facing the reliquary, the boy is the front left statue, the demons are the back two on either side of Atsu, and the wolf is unmasked. When you turn one statue, the adjacent one turns 180 degrees. Your goal is to make the boy and the demons face away from the reliquary, while the wolf faces toward.
Reliquary of Faith – Location & Solution
The final reliquary is in Oshima Coast, just east of where you first arrive in the region—accessible after Chapter Two begins. The inscription says:
The boy-made-man crafted blessings of his own
So others born under Mount Yotei
Will look to the true mountain for strength
This reliquary has only three wolf statues to turn, and all three need to face Mount Yotei. If the mountain isn’t visible, face all statues north. Turning one statue flips its neighbors 180 degrees. Start by aligning the outside two statues to face the same direction, then focus on the center one, adjusting until all face the mountain.
Completing each reliquary puzzle earns you a charm. Solving all five unlocks a special trophy. These puzzles are some of the most tricky parts of Ghost of Yotei, more challenging than the Nine Tail puzzles scattered across Teshio Ridge.
