When starting out in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the skill trees in the Impetus Repository can feel a bit overwhelming at first. Figuring out the best way to build your character might seem tricky. One of the easiest builds to try is the Flame build. You can stick with the Flame Bone Needle for a long time, while gradually unlocking better weapons as you progress through the game and reach the endgame.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers features many boss fights inspired by Sekiro, which will push you to try different builds and playing styles. Starting with a Flame build armed with the Longsword is a good way to get familiar with the game’s mechanics. The build becomes even more powerful once you get the Flamebringer Longsword. As you play further, the build will become more complex.
Best Skills for a Flame Build in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
The Fiery Embers Spell Enhancement is a must for this build. While you can change your weapons throughout the game and still keep a Flame theme, certain skills in the Impetus Repository are key to making this build work well. First, make sure to select the Fiery Embers node in the skill tree. This increases Burn buildup from spells.
For weapon skills, there are two disciplines emphasizing Flame: one in the Longsword tree and another in the Axe tree. I recommend always having Crescent Moon equipped on your primary weapon (preferably Flamebringer). Its Variant II upgrade causes Burn buildup when used with Skyborn Might and when your Madness meter is above 90%.
The second weapon discipline you can focus on is the Colossal Smash Discipline with its first variant, which creates a red mercury pool that can ignite into a large explosion, causing Burn buildup. Beyond these core nodes, you can upgrade your skills based on your playstyle, especially those boosting weapon damage.
For a Longsword and Axe approach, I suggest investing heavily in Strength and Agility. Since spells like Echo of Dhutanga and Burning Flames are useful early on, magic stats should also be developed but not too deeply until later. The early advantage of Echo of Dhutanga means you should unlock the Fury of the Skyborn node, reducing the Magic cost of Skyborn Might.
Best Weapons, Gear, & Spells for a Flame Build
Flame Weapons include the Flamebringer Longsword, Scorn Greataxe, Cinder Dragoncoil, and the Gunpowder Spear. You won’t find many options spread across the game; most weapon types only have a few choices, so each unlock feels significant.
While many weapons give good options, for a Flame-focused build that excels against bosses, the Flamebringer Longsword along with the Flame Temperance passive effect is ideal. Similarly, the Scorn Greataxe and Cinder Dragoncoil axe offer strong options. The Gunpowder Spear doesn’t have a passive Flame Temperance buff but has the Flame Strike skill and scales well with Agility and Strength. Equipping a standard Halberd with the Colossal Smash discipline can also be effective if late-game weapon options aren’t yet available.
The Flame Bone Needle is at the heart of this build. It’s unlocked early and allows you to add fire damage and Burn buildup to any weapon, especially ones with the Flame Temperance buff. The early spells Burning Flames and Echo of Dhutanga boost Burn buildup. Echo of Dhutanga is also great for quick enemy obliteration when hitting from behind, especially against bosses like the Mistress of the Night Huang Yan.
Many throwable items, such as Fire Pots and Fiery Flying Daggers, can also inflict Burn, adding more damage options.
Pendants like the Demon Pendant increase Fire damage but reduce Physical damage — a worthwhile trade-off for Flame weapons. Other useful pendants include the Crane Pendant, which boosts spell damage, and the Coiled Dragon Pendant, which overall enhances weapon skill power.
Strategy for a Flame Build
Dealing Fire damage and causing Burn buildup is the main goal. For the Longsword and Axe, a good tactic is to inflict Burn on enemies first, then switch to a powerful attack like Colossal Smash to trigger an explosive Fire burst underneath. This straightforward approach can melt many bosses faster than other builds.
Keep in mind: not every boss is weak to Fire, so you might need to switch to a different approach in specific fights. But for most enemies and especially in the Cloudspire area, Fire damage is a strong choice.
By focusing on inflicting Burn and maximizing Fire effects, you’ll create a build that’s both aggressive and efficient in combat. This strategy allows for quick, explosive victory against most foes, making your Flame build a highly effective and exciting way to play in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
