During Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you won’t face many tough decisions, but one of the earliest choices appears at a mysterious glowing red door where you’re asked to solve a riddle. You’ll find a few of these doors scattered throughout the game, each offering two different options. Once you choose, you can’t go back to pick the other unless you start a new game.
These doors can give you useful equipment, teleport you to a new area, or grant valuable resources based on your decision. While you can usually handle challenging bosses and tricky levels without outside help, making the right choice at these doors—whether to pick Winged Ascension or Feathered Transcendence—can be more complicated than it seems. The decision isn’t always straightforward.
Where to Find the Winged Ascension Door
The first “riddle door” you’ll encounter is near the end of the starting area called Worship’s Rise. To reach it, follow the main path from the shrine at the Corpse Pits and eventually enter the Tang Emperor Palace. As you move through this area, a glowing red door will stand out clearly.
This door is located just before you face the Tang Palace Maid and then fight Commander Honglan. If you pass it by, you can fast travel back to the Corpse Pits and make your way again—since the door stays lit until you interact with it and make a decision or reach a point of no return.
What Happens if You Choose Winged Ascension
Selecting Winged Ascension rewards you with a helpful item called the Sheng – Lasting Alacrity Benediction Stone. This item boosts the effects of Alacrity, a buff that prevents damage when casting spells, and it triggers automatically depending on the spell used.
This choice also opens a door inside a region called Widow’s Rest. Behind it, you’ll find a lootable piece of gear—though often it’s just the Benediction Stone, other doors might reward you with rare armor or special items, like the Bridal Armor set, which you can only get by choosing the correct answer in a specific door related to the course of destiny versus threads of fate.
What Happens if You Choose Feathered Transcendence
If you pick Feathered Transcendence, you’ll be teleported instantly to the Lotus Pond, a room inside the same region. There, you’ll need to defeat a red-eyed demon to earn a Faint Red Feather and a Red Mercury Essence. Additionally, you can interact with an NPC called the Boatman, which is a recurring character in the game, to receive a Crystalized Red Mercury. Nearby, you’ll find a Grown Red Mercury.
In the Lotus Pond, you can also fight the glowing-eyed demon enemy or chat with the Boatman. Keep in mind, teleporting here resets your progress, similar to resting at a shrine. If you die, you’ll return to this spot until you leave for another shrine or move on.
Which Choice Should You Make?
Ultimately, whether you pick Winged Ascension or Feathered Transcendence is up to you. Both choices lead to unique story interactions, especially with the Boatman, who appears only if you choose the “incorrect” option. For the best experience, it’s recommended to pick either all the “correct” answers or all the “incorrect” ones during a single playthrough. Doing so allows you to see both potential outcomes without missing much.
Tip: To fully explore both paths and get all the rewards, you’ll probably need to play through a New Game+ run, especially for console players, unless you keep multiple save files or backup saves on PC.
In short, sticking to one set of answers—either always correct or always incorrect—will help you understand all the story paths and secrets these doors hold in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
