After you’ve rescued Hans Capon from Von Bergow, your next task is to sneak into the city council to uncover the king’s plans in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This part of the game can drag on and may feel tedious, but it provides a wealth of essential information.
You can dive deeper into the king’s strategy while playing as Godwin during the quest titled The King’s Gambit. This mission includes some tricky segments that can extend your playtime. Don’t worry; we’re here to help you navigate this quest with ease.
Talk to Vavak
As instructed by Lord Hanush, you’ll need to blackmail Vavak. Make your way to the Kuttenberg city hall and engage with the guard. Simply tell him you have an appointment, and he’ll grant you access. Once inside, have a chat with Vavak and proceed to blackmail him.
Your reputation with him isn’t a concern, so feel free to intimidate him. He will agree to inform you how to enter the meeting. To attend as a waiter, you must acquire another waiter’s outfit and a certificate.
You can snag these by speaking with Franta Kuldaun. The game might mislead you with a yellow search zone to locate him, but just ignore that and follow the C marker on your map to find Franta.
To obtain the certificate and the outfit, you’ll need to successfully pass some skill checks while talking to Franta. If you’re in armor, you’re likely to succeed with the “I have important news for the King” option.
Should you fail that check, don’t panic! You’ll have another chance with a different option. If that fails too, simply choose “Think about it as an investment.” High charisma here will help you succeed.
If you’re successful, Franta will hand you the items. If you fail, he may demand 1,000 Groschen, which is quite a chunk of change. It’s advisable to boost your charisma instead of paying him off. However, if you want to avoid reloading your save, you can knock him out at night and take the items.
Infiltrate the Meeting
Once you’ve obtained the royal waiter’s attire, equip it and head to the city council. Don’t forget to take off your weapons before talking to the Majordomo in the scribe’s office. Go through all the dialogue options with him and select “I know what I need (wait for the City Council to convene)” to move the time along.
Your job now is to serve wine to the guests as they request it. There are two types of wine: red and white. If a guest requests a specific wine and you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask them again. If you get it wrong too many times, the Majordomo will come and escort you out of the meeting, resulting in a failed quest.
Tip: Avoid serving wine to Adam of Zarzitz — he tends to cause a ruckus when intoxicated. If he asks for a drink, choose the option that tells him you’re not allowed to serve him.
While serving wine, if you hear Henry mention that you need to do a better job, don’t make any mistakes, or you’ll have to start over. Guests might not always refer to the wine simply as red or white; some may ask for Tokaji (white wine) or Monastery/Monastic (red wine).
Eventually, Bailiff Andreas Plumel will request your help. He’ll instruct you to fetch a cup he seized from a thief. Head to the staircase, open the door, and the cup will be right there on the table.
Pick it up and return it to the Bailiff. Soon after, Franz Rosenthal will give you another task: go get his gloves and count the creatures on a mural. Grab the gloves from right next to where the wine is placed.
You won’t need to count the winged creatures on the mural because, regardless of your answer, Franz will accept it; he doesn’t know the actual answer. As you wait around during the meeting, a cutscene will trigger, and you’ll switch to playing as Godwin.
Talk to Liechtenstein as Godwin
When you start as Godwin, quickly finish your conversation with Hans Capon, then move on to speak with Brabant. After that, approach Samuel and exhaust all dialogue options with him.
A cutscene will follow featuring Margrave Jobst revealing his plan against Sigismund. Most members won’t agree with him, so afterward, consult with Liechtenstein to learn about a counterplan requiring support from multiple influential figures, including Botscheck of Kunstadt, Haman Alder, and Anna of Waldstein.
Start with Haman Alder. During your conversation, Godwin’s father, Martin Oderin, will step in.
After some back-and-forth, Christopher, Godwin’s brother, will challenge you to a duel. Your choice here doesn’t matter; you’ll need to defeat him. Afterward, inform him about Liechtenstein’s plan, and he’ll agree to assist you.
Next, go to Botscheck of Kunstadt and discuss his concerns about marrying off his daughter into a powerful family. Suggest Hans Capon as a potential match, and he’ll request approval from Hanush first.
Gaining Approval from Hanush
Visit Hanush in the courtyard and share all the details with him. He’ll be pleased and give you his approval. Return to Botscheck for his support, then go to Anna of Waldstein, who you can find sitting by the window on the top floor next to the staircase.
When you talk to her, she’ll ask you to swap some documents in Alder’s saddlebag. Head to the marked coordinates, switch out the papers, and be sure to close the door behind you. After you finish that task, return to Anna to gain her backing as well.
Final Steps
When you’re caught swapping the papers, the stablehand might request you to leave. However, you can succeed at a skill check to remain undisturbed.
Afterward, consult with Liechtenstein, and a cutscene will ensue. Once it’s over, you’ll take control of Henry again.
Serving King Sigismund
In this final segment, with Henry back in action, King Sigismund will request that you stay to serve him wine. Make sure to always serve the correct wine; if you fail to do so or ignore his orders, you risk being kicked out, which would lead to failing the quest.
Sigismund will ask for wine about three times. He’ll want red wine for the first two requests and then switch to white for the last one. Don’t forget to thank him when he drinks to your health! After a while, he’ll invite you to drink with him, and the quest will wrap up from there.
