Romance in GreedFall: The Dying World works like in many RPGs, based on an approval system connected to your party members. Every decision made during conversations, quests, or dialogue with companions can increase or decrease how they feel about Vriden Gerr.
To build approval, you should keep their favor high, follow their personal questlines, and watch for the heart icon in dialogue options, which indicates choices that may influence approval. Out of the game’s eight companions, four can be romanced: Nilan, Ludwig, Alvida, and Sybille. Once you start a romance with one, you can’t pursue another, but you can break up with them before reaching a point of no return.
Four of your party members are open to romantic relationships once you get to know them well enough. These characters can be romanced regardless of their gender: Nilan, Ludwig, Alvida, and Sybille.
| Companion | Romance Tips |
|---|---|
| Nilan | Support native interests, respect Doneigad traditions, avoid siding with colonial authority, and reminisce about shared childhoods when possible. |
| Ludwig | Support those dispossessed, make practical decisions, and avoid acts of performative heroism. |
| Sybille | Approach conflicts diplomatically, let her handle enemies, and avoid appearing clingy. |
| Alvida | Show solidarity, defend those in trouble, draw cultural parallels, and favor pro-family choices in her quests. Defer to her opinions. |
When you’re ready to romance someone, clear options will appear for you to confirm or decline the relationship. Confirming a romance unlocks a special scene in your cabin, and Vriden Gerr will be in a confirmed relationship with that character. You can still choose to break up by talking to them afterward. However, once you reach the endgame, the option to break up will no longer be available.
Romance Tips
- Bring companions along! You can only have three in your active party at once. To improve your relationship, your chosen companion needs to be with you during key moments, as their presence influences how situations unfold.
- Regularly check in with your companions, especially after major story points. Speak to them at camp, as new dialogue, often marked with a heart, becomes available and can impact your approval ratings.
- Heart-marked dialogue options often lead to friendly, non-romantic interactions. Engage with these characters to strengthen friendships without necessarily pursuing a romantic relationship.
- Personal quests are vital. Each romanceable friend has a storyline that must advance for the romance to develop fully. Completing these quests and making the right choices boost approval the most.
