Upcoming Changes in Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1

The upcoming version 3.1 of Honkai: Star Rail is set to bring two highly anticipated 5-star characters: Tribbie and Mydei. Fans have been eagerly awaiting their release since their roles in version 3.0 and the insights shared during the recent livestream.

For free-to-play players, deciding which character to summon can be a bit overwhelming, especially if funds allow for only one 5-star unit. If you find yourself in this situation, here’s a straightforward guide to help you choose how to spend your hard-earned Stellar Jades wisely.

Note: The information presented here is based solely on the livestream and does not include any leaks.

Why You Should Consider Summoning for Tribbie

Tribbie is a 5-star Quantum Harmony unit capable of boosting her teammates’ damage output significantly. From what was revealed in the livestream, she uses a rocket to both damage enemies and create a damage-boosting field. While this field is active, opponents will take increased damage from your allies.

In addition to her damage capabilities, Tribbie can also enhance her teammates, although the specifics of her buffs weren’t detailed. It’s noted that she inflicts extra damage on enemies with the highest remaining health, which scales with the number of foes present. The more enemies there are, the higher her damage output will be.

It’s worth noting that while Tribbie is the focal character, she has partners Trianne and Trinnon, who appear in her ultimate move.

Moreover, Tribbie can trigger a follow-up attack every time an ally uses an ultimate ability, creating exciting team formation possibilities, especially with units that synergize well with follow-up attacks.

The Unique Aspects of Tribbie

What sets Tribbie apart is her ability to contribute both damage and support as a Harmony unit. Unlike other Harmony characters like Ruan Mei, Sunday, and Robin, who primarily focus on buffs, Tribbie offers follow-up attacks and deals bonus damage to healthy enemies. This dual action can help clear stages much faster and allows for creative team builds. With her field active, your main DPS character will breeze through challenging content, including the notorious Memory of Chaos.

If you choose to go for Tribbie, ensure you build her to balance the stats necessary for both a Harmony unit and a DPS role. Although optimizing her takes time, the long-term benefits are well worth the effort.

Why You Should Summon for Mydei

Mydei is an Imaginary Destruction unit who utilizes his HP to enhance his damage output, similar to Blade but much more powerful. During the livestream, it was shown that Mydei will possess substantial HP, allowing him to deal significant damage while consuming his own health.

For each point of HP he loses—whether through his skills or enemy attacks—he accumulates stacks until reaching a set maximum. Upon hitting this threshold, he becomes empowered, unleashing tremendous damage across all enemies. Additionally, when Mydei uses his ultimate, he heals himself and replenishes his stacks.

When Mydei enters his powered state, his defense decreases, and his HP significantly increases, making him more powerful the more damage he takes. Another intriguing feature highlighted in the livestream is his ability to revive himself after being knocked out, adding another layer of sustainability to his kit.

The Unique Aspects of Mydei

Mydei brings a refreshing change as an HP-scaling unit in a game predominantly filled with ATK-scaling characters. Previous Destruction units such as Blade, Jingliu, and Dan Heng have faced challenges with shifts in the meta. However, Mydei aims to revitalizing the Destruction archetype by improving gameplay dynamics in the endgame.

Despite losing health, Mydei isn’t fragile since he can heal himself. This self-sufficiency means he can pair with any healer and still tackle the game’s toughest challenges. Nevertheless, preparing Mydei for action requires a significant amount of resources, particularly in terms of HP-focused Relics and Ornaments, along with a solid emphasis on Crit Rate and Crit Damage. Pairing him with supportive Harmony units like Sunday, Bronya, or Robin can further elevate his damage potential.

Choose the Character You Prefer

Both Tribbie and Mydei are exceptional additions to the game that will greatly influence the current meta. Tribbie offers a combination of support and hybrid DPS, while Mydei is a powerful full DPS unit. Ultimately, your decision should be based on which character resonates with you more and what your account needs.

If you’re missing characters like Sunday or Robin, Tribbie is likely the better choice. Conversely, if Acheron or Feixiao are absent from your roster, then Mydei will suit your needs perfectly. It’s essential to remember, however, that the meta is constantly shifting, and what is strong today may fade in relevance tomorrow.

Honkai: Star Rail is known for frequently introducing new, powerful characters—a common point of criticism. Therefore, it’s wise to summon for those you genuinely like, especially as free-to-play players might find it frustrating to chase after constantly changing metas. The game doesn’t provide enough Stellar Jades for summoning two new characters every event, and trying to keep up with the meta can lead to burnout.

By focusing on characters you enjoy, not only do you conserve resources, but you also free yourself from the pressures of meta gameplay—allowing you to appreciate the diversity and fun within your roster.
