Select Language:

With hundreds of options for creating characters in Solasta 2, it can be tough to decide where to start. The best first step is to pick a race, which influences more than just your look in the game world. Each race is based on the Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules, so your choices will affect your stats and skills.

We’ll go over which races suit which classes and how to build a strong team capable of handling any enemy. Here’s everything you need to know about the races available in Solasta 2 and how they impact gameplay.

Note: The game is currently in early access, so details might change before the full release.

All Races in Solasta 2

There are four main races you can select during character creation: dwarf, elf, human, or halfling. Any of these can be tailored to any class. All races speak Common language, but they also can learn two additional languages, which include:

  • Dwarvish
  • Giant
  • Orc
  • Goblin
  • Elvish
  • Gnomish
  • Halfling
  • Draconic

Below are suggestions for the best classes for each race, along with tips to optimize your team.

Best Classes for Dwarves

Dwarves are tough and skilled craftsmen. They have several special traits:

  • Darkvision: See clearly in darkness up to 60 feet.
  • Dwarven Resilience: Advantage on saving throws against poison; resistance to poison damage.
  • Dwarven Toughness: Your maximum hit points increase by one, and each level up adds another.
  • Stonecunning: Touching stone gives tremorsense with a 60-foot radius and detects other creatures touching the same stone for ten minutes.

Dwarves are best suited for tanky, heavy-hitting roles like Fighters or Paladins. They excel at absorbing damage on the front lines but can also be effective spellcasters such as Clerics or Sorcerers.

Best Classes for Elves

Elves are adaptable, leaning toward ranged combat and magic. They can choose between two subraces:

  • High Elf Traits:

    • Gains the Fire Bolt cantrip at level one, which can be swapped later.
    • Learns the Longstrider spell at level three.
    • Gains the Misty Step spell at level five.
  • Sylvan Elf Traits:

    • Moves faster (35 ft.) and learns the Venomous Spike cantrip at level one.
    • Gains the Expeditious Retreat spell at level three.
    • Learns the Protection from Poison spell at level five.

All elves share traits like Darkvision, Fey Ancestry (advantage against being charmed), Keen Senses (proficiency in Insight, Perception, or Survival), and Trance (awake during long rests). High Elves are ideal for magic-focused roles such as Wizards or Paladins, while Sylvan Elves shine as Rogues or mobile fighters.

Best Classes for Humans

Humans are highly versatile due to their ability to adapt. Their traits include:

  • Resourceful: Gain Heroic Inspiration after a long rest, reroll failed attack rolls.
  • Skillful: Choose proficiency in one skill.
  • Versatile: Pick an Origin Feat, such as:
    • Magic Initiate: Two cantrips plus a level-one spell.
    • Quick: +5 movement speed, disadvantage on opportunity attacks against you.
    • Ready for War: Proficiency with light armor, shields, and martial weapons.
    • Robust: Extra HP and doubled healing on HP rolls.
    • Savage Attacker: Advantage on weapon damage rolls.
    • Skilled: Proficiency in three skills or tools.
    • Vigilant: Proficiency or expertise in Perception; no disadvantage on initiative when surprised.

Humans can be designed to excel in any class, making them perfect for flexible party roles.

Best Classes for Halflings

Halflings are similar in size to Dwarves but are nimble and stealthy. They start with traits like:

  • Halfling Nimbleness: Move through the space of larger creatures.
  • Luck: Reroll a natural 1 on any d20 check.
  • Naturally Stealthy: Hide even when only obscured by a larger creature.

Their best role is as Rogues due to their stealth skills. They also work well as Sorcerers or Clerics if stats are built accordingly. If you often roll 1s or have bad luck, their Luck trait turns those failures into potential successes.

Summary

Choosing the right race sets the foundation for your character’s strengths and play style. Dwarves are tanky warriors, elves excel at magic and ranged combat, humans are adaptable for any class, and halflings are perfect for stealthy roles. Picking a race that complements your preferred class will help you build a more effective and enjoyable team.
