Building relationships with the NPCs in Hades is a rewarding part of the game. As you interact with characters, you can give them gifts like Nectar, Ambrosia, or complete Favors to strengthen your bonds. Giving a Keepsake, for example, allows you to max out their Bond rank. These relationships involve various mythological figures, including legendary warriors, Olympian gods, and even Death personified. However, only a few characters—namely Thanatos, Megaera, and Dusa—offer the chance for romantic connections.
In the original game, you can romance three characters: Megaera, Thanatos, and Dusa. While you can improve your friendship with others like Nyx or Achilles, romantic options are limited to those three. Feel free to romance all three simultaneously; there are no penalties for pursuing multiple relationships at once.
Starting Megaera’s Romance Path
To build a romance with Megaera, you need to defeat her as the final boss in Tartarus. Afterward, she begins appearing in the House of Hades, where you can interact with her, give Nectar, and raise her Bond level. The process is straightforward: gift her Nectar to start her Bond, then continue giving her five more Nectar over time. Once Bond reaches +6, you’ll need to complete her Favour before progressing further. Later, you’ll exchange Ambrosia for her maximum Bond (+10). At that point, you’ll get a private conversation option, allowing you to choose to pursue a romance route—select “Go To Her” for romance or “Ease Off” if you prefer friendship without consequences.
How to Increase Megaera’s Bond and Complete Her Favour
- Gift her Nectar after defeating her for the first time.
- Repeat giving Nectar to increase her Bond until +6.
- Complete Megaera’s Favour, which involves making sure she receives her items from Zagreus and keeps appearing in the lounge.
- After her Favour, start gifting Ambrosia to deepen the bond, ultimately reaching +10.
- During the final interaction, select “Go To Her” to pursue the romantic path.
Starting Thanatos’ Romance Path
Thanatos can be romanced after you defeat Megaera’s sisters in Tartarus. He appears randomly in Elysium afterward. You can gift him Nectar once a run or in the House of Hades. To build his Bond, give him Nectar repeatedly until Bond +6, then complete his Favour by defeating him in a challenge. Following that, give him Ambrosia to reach Bond +10. When the final conversation occurs, you’ll decide whether to “Comfort Him” (romance) or “Ease Off.” Interestingly, if you’ve romanced Megaera too, both NPCs might appear together, offering an option for a polyamorous relationship.
How to Unlock Thanatos’ Favour
- Give him Nectar to reach Bond +6.
- Complete his Favour, which involves winning a competition against him.
- After completing his Favour, give him Ambrosia — the first for the “Mort” Keepsake, then more to max out the bond.
How to Start Dusa’s Romance Path
Dusa’s bond can be increased at any point by gifting Nectar in the House of Hades. Unlike Megaera and Thanatos, her path doesn’t rely on a specific trigger; it can start early in the game. However, progressing her bond involves more steps: unlock her Favour by completing renovations in the Lounge, then give her Ambrosia to raise her Bond to +10. When her relationship is maxed out, she offers to return the Ambrosia you gave, with no negative effects whether you take it back or let her keep it.
Notes on Dusa’s Romance
Dusa is a disembodied Gorgon head, and her romantic route is more about friendship and platonic bonds. Some interpret her as possibly aromantic or asexual. The developers seem to prefer emphasizing the value of friendship without romantic expectations. Despite this, many fans cherish the close friendship between Dusa and Zagreus, and pursuing her relationship remains meaningful.
Getting More Nectar and Ambrosia
- Nectar can be obtained by visiting the Wretched Broker, exchanging five Cthonic Keys for one Nectar.
- Ambrosia is available by trading Diamonds with the Broker—two Diamonds for one Ambrosia—or farming it through the Pact of Punishment by defeating the duo boss in Elysium multiple times. Increasing difficulty via the Pact yields better loot, including Ambrosia, without adding extra runs.
With these methods, you can efficiently build your friendships and unlock the romance options in Hades, experiencing the game’s rich storytelling and character interactions.
