Which Character Should You Pick in Cinderia: Completing or Solving?

Cinderia is a roguelike game that draws heavily from similar titles but features a charming storybook look that helps it stand out. The game also offers multiple playable characters to add variety.

Currently, there are four characters you can unlock and play. Rue is available from the start, while Rivet, Uma, and Isdra need to be unlocked through specific actions.

Although each character has their own set of Skills, Abilities, and moves, they can all share Accessories, Support Skills, and permanent upgrades like those from the Soulfire Prayer. This means that upgrading one character benefits them all, saving you time and resources.

How Many Characters Are There?

There are four playable characters. Rue is given to you at the beginning, while Rivet, Uma, and Isdra must be unlocked. All characters have unique skills and abilities, but they can share equipment and upgrades. To switch characters, talk to them in the Shelter—note that you can’t change characters mid-run.

How to Unlock Each Character

  • Rue: She is the default character, so no unlocking required.

  • Rivet: Usually the second character you’ll unlock. She is related to the Blacksmith you rescue early in the game. After helping him set up his forge, he mentions his missing relative. There’s a good chance you’ll encounter Rivet in a random room during your first area. She will assist you in fighting enemies there. After defeating the enemies, speak to her to have her return to the Shelter, making her available for play from then on.

  • Uma: Unlocking Uma is more involved. She is found in the second area, the Lightless Forest, specifically in a Mystery Room—so her appearance isn’t guaranteed. In her room, she is with another person and an injured animal. She will ask for five Equipment Material shards to help heal the animal. After helping her three times, she will decide to fight the curse with you and return to the Shelter, becoming a playable character.

  • Isdra: She has the least straightforward unlocking process but requires more effort. First, bring the witch back to the Shelter after building the Blacksmith’s forge. Then, build her research station and spend Candles to unlock research topics until “Ancient Ice Magic Research III” is unlocked. Once researched, Isdra appears and can be played.

How to Play as Each Character

While core gameplay stays the same, each character uses their own unique tactics and upgrades.

  • Rue: She is the fastest character, equipped with a five-hit combo and throwable knives that move quickly. Her skills typically have faster cooldowns, but they consume Energy. The amount of Energy she has boosts the effects and power of her Skills, which recharge passively and through dealing damage. Rue’s versatility makes her a strong all-rounder, especially both up close and at a distance.

  • Rivet: She’s more technical and depends a lot on resource management. Her combo is a three-hit string with short range but decent damage. She wields a gun that can hold multiple rounds and reloads automatically without interrupting her actions. Many of her Skills and upgrades focus on building and improving turrets, allowing her to control the battlefield mainly from afar while managing her resources carefully.

  • Uma: She is similar to Rivet in terms of resource management but in a different way. Uma is like a Beastmaster, summoning woodland spirits to aid her. Her short-range combo and nature blast attack with three charges make her unique. Her main resource is her Summon gauge, which fills as she deals damage. Skills use up this gauge and summon animals, like wolves, to assist her. The goal with Uma is to summon many animals to increase her damage potential.

  • Isdra: She has a longer combo string than most characters, except Rue, but lacks a default ranged attack. Instead, she can block to guard against damage from the front and has the ability to Perform a Perfect Parry—timing her block to negate damage and reflect a large portion back. She also has a Frost Gauge that charges with her attacks, making her more powerful the higher it gets. Her playstyle emphasizes defensive timing and building her Frost Gauge for stronger attacks.
