Research is the main way your park progresses from a small dinosaur exhibit to a full-scale Jurassic adventure in Jurassic World Evolution 3. Nearly everything you unlock—buildings, attractions, even hybrid dinosaurs—begins in the Science Center’s research section. However, it requires money, time, and scientists to get things done.
This guide will explain how research works, what each category does, and which items you should prioritize unlocking first. This will help you grow your park into a thrilling attraction that also stays financially healthy.
What Is Research?
Research is the core mechanic for progressing in the game. Almost every new building, upgrade, and dinosaur genome is locked behind research. As you complete research tasks, more complex systems and tools become available.
How to Access Research
First, you need to build a Science Center. Once it is built, click on it to open its menu. The research options are in the fourth tab. Here, you can see available research tasks and assign scientists to work on them.
What Are the Research Areas?
There are eight different categories of research, with 113 total research nodes to unlock. These categories include:
| Research Area | Description |
|---|---|
| Attractions | Unlock new types of attractions like guided tours and dinosaur viewing experiences. |
| Guests | Unlock amenities, improved paths, and guest buildings to keep visitors happy. |
| Operations | Improve infrastructure, staff, and maintenance tools for your park. |
| Dig Sites | Access new fossil sites to discover and extract dinosaur DNA. |
| Enclosures | Upgrade and add facilities such as hatcheries and fences to contain dinosaurs. |
| Medicine | Develop cures and preventive treatments for dinosaur illnesses. |
| Gene Modification | Insert genetic traits to improve dinosaurs’ health, strength, or fertility. |
| Hybrids | Create cross-species dinosaurs by combining different genomes. |
Unlocking Research
Each research node requires you to assign scientists and spend funds to complete. Scientists need specific skills, like Logistics, to contribute. The project takes a set amount of time. You might need to unlock prerequisite research nodes first; check the bottom right corner of each node to see what’s required.
Be careful with your spending—starting too many research projects at once can drain your funds quickly. Pace your progress to ensure your park’s income covers each new unlock.
Which Research Nodes to Unlock First
Early in the game, focus on practical upgrades rather than flashy hybrids. Start with Operations and Enclosures to keep your park running smoothly and safely. Following that, researching Medicine will help treat illnesses before they become serious.
Next, invest in Guests and Attractions to boost visitor satisfaction and revenue. Once your infrastructure and finances are stable, you can explore gene modification and hybrids to diversify your dinosaur collection and make your park truly special.
