The logbook is a key feature in every Metroid Prime game, with Samus regularly scanning enemies, machinery, and structures around her. It’s a useful way to learn about the game world and encourages players to explore and pay attention to details.
This remains true in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, even when using the Psychic Visor. Like previous games, some scans can be easily missed and lost forever if not caught early. To help you avoid missing any, we’ve compiled a guide that ensures you won’t overlook a single scan, provided you’re not too far into the game.
What Is The Logbook?
When you scan objects or enemies, a brief description will appear, sometimes prompting you to check the Logbook for more details. The Logbook stores all your scans and expands on information that is available only when enough data has been collected.
Not everything you scan gets added—it only includes items that prompt you to access the Logbook for additional info. Common items like doors or ammo are excluded, leaving only the meaningful scans that contribute to your collection.
Missable Logbook Scans
There are some scans that you can only get once and are easily missed. These typically involve bosses, tutorial enemies, or unique adversaries. The key missable scans include:
- Galactic Federation Soldier
- Space Pirate
- Aberax (boss enemy)
- Sylux (final scans only)
- Lockjaw (Sylux’s Morph Ball form)
- Carvex Vines and Pollen Sacs
- Swim Snatcher
- Behemoth
All boss scans are missable, especially those controlled by Sylux during certain fights. Some can be rescanned via holograms in Fury Green, but others cannot.
Note: Scanning these enemies or objects won’t award extra scans like environmental items (doors, ammo, etc.).
Every Logbook Scan and Where to Find It
The scans are organized into categories based on their type. Here’s a breakdown of each:
Galactic Federation
Includes soldiers and personnel encountered throughout the game, such as
- Federation Troopers (any in the prologue)
- Myle MacKenzie (scannable at Base Camp, Fury Green)
- Reger Tokabi, Nora Armstrong, Ezra Duke (in Ice Belt, back at Base Camp)
- VUE-995 (Ice Belt, Base Camp)
Sylux Forces
All missable, with some in the prologue and others in the final stages, such as:
- Space Pirate (during prologue)
- Aberax (boss fight, prologue)
- Sylux (final scan, not in earlier fights)
- Lockjaw (Sylux’s Morph Ball form, during the finale)

The Reward for 100% Logbook Scans
Unlike collecting items, scouring the entire Logbook yields no direct reward. Instead, achieving a perfect score in both item and scan collections unlocks a special ending sequence. This includes a slightly altered final cutscene where Samus removes her helmet and an extra post-credits scene expanding on Sylux’s story.
Note: This alternate ending and Sylux’s scene can also be viewed via his amiibo at any time.
