During your adventure in the Mega Dimension DLC of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you’ll unlock several new Side Missions. One of these missions brings you to a secret vendor located in a back alley, selling TMs that can’t be found anywhere else in the game. This makes the vendor’s stock the only way to obtain these rare TMs.

The vendor offers many powerful moves suitable for nearly every Pokémon type. To buy these TMs, you will need Mega Shards, as they are the only accepted currency. After you defeat Rayquaza in the post-game, the vendor will stock additional valuable items that weren’t available before, but only if you return to visit him after the Rayquaza battle.

Where to Find the Secret Back Alley TM Vendor

You can find the TM vendor by fast-traveling to Wild Zone 17. Once there, stand in front of the main gate, then turn left and immediately go right where a man with a Snover is standing. Continue following this path until you reach the back of the building. There, you’ll spot a narrow alley with a man standing near some garbage. The man will have a prompt above his head saying, “I’ve got some real good stuff here!” Talking to him will let you browse his inventory.

He does not accept Pokémon Dollars as payment—only Mega Shards. These shards are relatively easy to gather from Hyperspace Distortions. Keep in mind, to check his inventory, you’ll need to speak to him directly at this alley.

Tips for Purchasing from the TM Vendor

  • Make sure to verify if your Pokémon can learn the move before purchasing, to avoid wasting Mega Shards on moves they can’t learn.
  • The vendor sells various TMs, including moves like Comet Punch, Sing, Double Hit, Razor Wind, Chilling Water, Muddy Water, Scald, Acid Spray, Trailblaze, Seed Bomb, Petal Dance, Solar Blade, Silver Wind, First Impression, Ancient Power, Meteor Beam, Psychic Fangs, Magnet Bomb, Steel Beam, Drain Punch, Storm Throw, Vacuum Wave, Blaze Kick, Dual Wingbeat, Sky Attack, Dual Chop, Scale Shot, Frost Breath, Icicle Spear, Sheer Cold, and Fissure.
  • Additionally, he sells special Feathers, each costing 60 Mega Shards and increasing a Pokémon’s specific EV by 1. While Vitamins are more efficient for EV training, Mega Shards can be a useful alternative if you’re running low on money.

How to Unlock Genesect

After defeating and catching Rayquaza, a new mission becomes available. The mission marker will appear on your map. Head over to the vendor and speak with him to learn that he now has four special Drives for sale: Douse Drive, Shock Drive, Burn Drive, and Chill Drive, each costing 540 Mega Shards. You will need to gather over 2,000 Mega Shards to buy all four, as each drive is expensive.

Having a maximum of 999 Mega Shards at once means you’ll need to make multiple trips, so monitor your shards to avoid wasting opportunities. The vendor’s goal is for you to purchase all four Drives. Once you do, he will reveal some secret information.

Finding and Catching Genesect

After acquiring the last Drive, the vendor will lead you to a Hyperspace Distortion located in Wild Zone 13. Inside, you’ll find Genesect, at level 200, waiting to be battled and caught. Prepare by bringing a Fire-type Pokémon, since that is its only weakness. It’s highly recommended to bring a 5-Star Donut, if available, to improve your chances during the encounter.

Catching Genesect will complete this Side Mission, adding the Pokémon to your Mega Dimension Pokédex. Remember, you can revisit the TM vendor’s alley whenever you wish, even after completing this mission, to buy more TMs and supplies.
