Because multiplayer is such an important feature in Pokémon Pokopia, players need a way to show their feelings and communicate with friends or even take photos. Since there’s no chat or in-game messaging system—apart from the Nintendo Switch’s GameChat feature—players primarily use emotes for expression.
At the beginning, players will know a few simple emotes. As they explore Pokopia, they’ll discover more by finding hidden items throughout different areas. Interacting with these items unlocks new emotes, which can then be used to interact with friends or their Pokémon companions.
All Emote Locations
Emotes are scattered across various parts of Pokopia, and players will need access to certain gated zones to unlock all of them. Once unlocked, players can test them out with Pokémon friends, who often react directly to the emote with a matching response.
To use an emote, press down on the D-pad. This will display a wheel of emotes, where you can browse and select favorites to quickly access later.
