Several Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A gained Mega Evolutions for the first time, including Lucario. Lucario is one of the few Pokémon to get a second Mega Evolution called the Z Mega Evolution. However, to activate this form, you’ll need a special item called the Lucarionite Z, which requires completing a specific quest.
You first see Lucario during an early battle with Korrina in the story, as she has one, but you can’t unlock its Z Mega Evolution until you’ve finished all game content, including the DLC and its post-game.
How to Obtain Lucarionite Z
Unlike regular Mega Stones, which you can buy or find by defeating wild Pokémon, you must complete a quest to get Lucarionite Z. After finishing the main game, including unlocking Eternal Floette and completing all DLC content, a quest will become available on the rooftop of Hotel Z.
Go to the roof using the elevator inside the hotel, and you’ll find Korrina waiting for you. Speaking with her will start Side Mission 197: Ultra-Hardcore Lucario Showdown, which is the quest that rewards you with Lucarionite Z.
If the quest isn’t showing up or Korrina isn’t on the roof, you likely haven’t met all of the necessary requirements. Make sure you’ve completed all story missions in both the base game and Mega Dimension, including post-game content like Infinite Royale, as everything needs to be finished.
About the Side Mission: Ultra-Hardcore Lucario Showdown
The quest is fairly straightforward but may require some preparation if you haven’t used Lucario much. Korrina will battle you with her Lucario, but she prefers a Lucario vs. Lucario fight. To make this battle work, you must:
- Have only one Lucario on your team, with no other Pokémon.
- Level your Lucario to 100, matching her level.
- Give your Lucario a Lucarionite to Mega Evolve it.
- Support its nature with a Mint if needed, to optimize its moveset.
- Remember that her Lucario is a Fighting/Steel type, even in Z Mega evolution, making it weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground moves.
For the moves, you should aim to include at least one Fighting-type move and one Ground-type move in your Lucario’s move set. Recommended options include:
Physical Moves:
- Dig (can prevent damage while attacking)
- Close Combat
- Brick Break
- Protect (to shield your Lucario)
Special Moves:
- Aura Sphere
- Earth Power
- Protect
- Focus Blast
While a physical attack set is generally preferred, if you only have a special move set, prioritize moves with STAB and good type coverage. Protect is useful in either scenario to defend when needed.
During the Battle
Korrina will immediately Mega Evolve her Lucario at the start of the fight. For best results, Mega Evolve your Lucario as well early in the battle. Her moves include Focus Blast, Detect, Hyper Beam, and Extreme Speed. She begins with Focus Blast, but if you attack first, she may use Detect to defend.
Your goal is to avoid her strongest moves by protecting your Lucario and take advantage of super-effective moves with STAB whenever possible. Good preparation should allow this fight to be quick and manageable.
Once you defeat her, she will give you the Lucarionite Z. Remember to equip it on your Lucario to unlock its Z Mega Evolution in future battles by holding the item during Mega Evolution.
