Josée is the first hero you meet in Code Vein 2, and she instantly marries you. You quickly develop a bond with her, which makes it even more heartbreaking when you’re forced to leave, knowing how her life will end.
But what if you could change that? Altering the past is a big challenge, especially when it comes to Josée. Still, if you had the chance to let her live a happy life, wouldn’t you take it?
### How Do You Return To Josée’s Era?
After defeating the Blind Hero Josée, you receive her Fading Bond, but Lou points out that it’s too weak for her to follow. You need something stronger to reconnect with her. Right now, there’s nothing available, so you just have to keep playing.
Later, in the Undead Forest, you’ll encounter Hero Holly. After defeating her, Lycoris helps you change her past, which allows you to restore the Sanatorium to its former glory in the Present Era and shifts Holly’s cocoon to a different location. This change has a big impact. Lise recovers from her fight with the Metagen Remnant thanks to Holly’s help. The Sanatorium is lively again, and you can find Lise’s Hair Ornament on the reception desk. Picking it up triggers a flashback showing the recent changes in this timeline.
With this information, you can go back to Josée’s Fading Bond and travel back in time to help her again. But beware—things might get complicated.
### Fighting Off The Bureau
When you return to Josée, her outpost is under attack by the Bureau, led by Alessandro Gobbo and his Revenant Hunters. Tired of playing nice, Gobbo storms Josée’s outpost to eliminate her by force. You’ve known about this fight before and can help defend her.
Several waves of enemies attack, and your main goal is to survive. Once you fend them off, a “Peril Survived” message appears, leading to a cutscene with Gobbo. It turns out Gobbo can create tiny versions of the Resurgence, which he used before to cause Josée’s feral outburst. As she nearly goes into a frenzy and a mini Resurgence spreads, Lou decides to pull you back to the Present. It’s a tough choice, but losing you would make everything else meaningless.
### Finding Lise and Returning to Josée
You realize that Lise, who wanted to create a device to help Josée control her frenzy but died before finishing it, might still be alive in the Present Era. Now, with Holly’s help, she survived, and you suspect she might be in a place you previously encountered but didn’t recognize as her home.
From the Undead Forest, you learn Lise arrived at the Sunken City through the eastern tunnel. Your search begins there. She’s in an unexpected location—just south of the eastern tunnel, on a hilltop overlooking the Josée’s Outpost clock tower, where a nearby tower had a woman outside and a locked door earlier. Now, talking to this woman will give you the key to the shelter. Inside, you find Lise’s finished device—though she died during its creation. It’s a tragedy, but you can go back again and see if it works.
### Returning to Josée and Taking Down Gobbo
To finalize your efforts, go back to Josée’s Fading Bond. Placing the device on her eyepatch allows her to control her frenzy without going into a Frenzy. However, Gobbo notices this and steals Lise’s invention before you can stop him. Lou warns you that your present timeline no longer exists—you’re trapped in Josée’s era until you fix everything.
After Josée wakes up, she learns everything that happened. She tells you that your next target is the Bureau’s castle in the South of the Undead Forest. You might have seen this area before but couldn’t access it then.
### Beating Gobbo and Oskar
If you’ve activated the mistle there, you can fast travel to the location. As soon as you pass through the gate, you’re thrown into combat with two enemies—initially only two but quickly escalating into a boss fight.
You will face Gobbo and Oskar, both fighting with a Bayonet and a Two-handed Sword, with some new moves and abilities. They share the same health bar, making it easier to focus on one. If you leave Josée’s protection or distract one, it could help. Defeating one causes Oskar to be removed, and only Gobbo remains, now more aggressive with wider-range attacks and increased power.
Once you defeat Gobbo, you reclaim Lise’s invention and say your final goodbye to Josée. This time, for real. The timeline in the Present changes—most notably, Lise is alive. By saving Josée and repairing their bonds, Josée spends her final moments knowing her efforts were worth it, and her loved ones live.
