Finding ore is a key part of Hytale. Without ore, you’ll be stuck using basic tools to fight stronger enemies, and you’ll have no armor to protect yourself. With ore, you can craft better weapons and armor, making you more durable—and those bears won’t kill you in just two hits anymore.
Ores aren’t simply given to you unless you’re lucky with treasure chests. You need to explore deep into the vast caves under Orbis to find them. The best ores are usually far from where you start the game. Below, we’ll explain what each ore is used for and where you can find them.
Hytale is currently in Early Access, so some details might change later.
Where To Find Every Ore
There are seven main types of ore scattered across the world. Most of them are used to craft weapons and armor, and they are necessary for building or upgrading different workbenches.
Note: There are additional ore types like Mithril and Onyxium in the game files and available in Creative Mode, but they don’t spawn naturally in the world at this time.
All ores yield their respective raw ore when mined. To turn these into usable materials, you need to smelt them in a furnace to get ingots, which are essential for crafting.
Copper Ore
Copper Ore is the first major ore you’ll encounter. It appears in nearly every biome except Zone Four. It’s most common in caves within Zone One, such as the Drifting Plains and The Fens, and also in Zone Two biomes.
Copper Ingots are used to craft weapons and armor, like Copper weapons, and to build many workbenches, including the Armorer’s Workbench, Blacksmith’s Anvil, and Chef’s Stove. It’s also needed to upgrade some workbenches and tools to Tier Two.
Iron Ore
Iron Ore is the second major ore type. Like Copper, it can be found in all biomes, but it’s most abundant in Zone Two, especially in the Golden Steppes and the Badlands, and also in Zone Three, such as the Boreal Reach.
Iron Ore is used to make Iron weapons and armor, and to craft the Salvager’s Workbench. It’s necessary for upgrading workbenches, the furnace, blacksmith’s anvil, and armor’s workbench to Tier Two.
Tip: Ores shine in low light and darkness, so you can sometimes navigate caves without torches by watching for their gleam, especially near ceilings or in hard-to-reach spots.
Thorium Ore
Thorium Ore is the third major type, mainly found in Zone Two biomes like the Badlands and Desolate Basin. It’s somewhat rare and is collected by digging deep near the bottom of the world, with small amounts occasionally in Zone One and Zone Three.
In the Golden Steppes biome within Zone Two, Thorium and Iron often generate more than Copper. Usually, more Thorium is found in the normal and jungle caves beneath Charred Woodlands.
Thorium can be crafted into Thorium weapons and armor at a Tier Two Blacksmith’s Anvil. It can also upgrade workbenches and the furnace to Tier Three or Tier Two, respectively.
Gold Ore
Gold Ore is the fourth major ore. You can find it at low rates in all zones, but it’s most common in Zone Three biomes.
Gold Ore generally spawns closer to the bottom of the world, often in small veins of two to four pieces. It’s mostly used for crafting the Alchemist’s Workbench and the Flame Crystal Staff, after unlocking the Arcanist’s Workbench.
Note: Many gold and silver ores spawn in water-filled caves in Zone Three, which are only accessible by draining water with buckets or by using Creative Mode to bypass water effects.
Silver Ore
Silver Ore ranks fifth. Like Gold, it can be found in every biome but is just as rare. It’s more common in Zone Three and typically spawns towards the bottom of the world in small veins.
You can craft Silver Ingots into the Ice Crystal Staff at the Arcanist’s Workbench.
Cobalt Ore
Cobalt Ore is the sixth major ore and is found in Zone Two, Three, and Four biomes, with the most common in Zone Three, such as the Boreal March.
Most Cobalt Ore appears underground, but small veins can sometimes be found along mountain sides in Zone Three, alongside Iron Ore.
Cobalt is used for crafting Cobalt Weapons and Armor at Tier Two, and it helps upgrade workbenches and forges to Tier Three.
Adamantite Ore
Adamantite Ore is only found in Zone Four biomes, such as the Charred Woodlands. This zone features massive underground jungles with numerous caves, including normal and jungle caves where Adamantite is most abundant.
It’s used to craft Adamantite gear at Tier Three and to upgrade workbenches and forges to Tier Four. Most Adamantite is found deep within the caves beneath Charred Woodlands.
Mithril Ore
Mithril Ore is the eighth major type but does not spawn naturally in the game. It’s only available in Creative Mode or through special means. Crafting weapons and armor from Mithril requires first obtaining it via Creative Mode, then mining and smelting into Mithril Ingots just like other ores. Currently, Mithril gear can be crafted at Tier Three.
