Keepsakes are items you can collect in Cairn to add a personal touch to your backpack. You can attach one keepsake to your bag at all times while climbing the mountain. None of these keepsakes offer any gameplay advantage—they’re purely for looks and for you to find as collectibles. There are a total of 17 keepsakes in the game. Some are obtained through DLC or by making choices during the story, while others must be actively sought out. Here is how to find all of them.
You can identify the names of areas by going into ‘load game’ from the pause menu and hovering over save points.
Story-Related and DLC Keepsakes
Some keepsakes are part of the story or included in DLC packs, so you don’t need to search for them manually. For example:
- Capsule: Choose the “Go Back Down” option late in the game for the Home ending.
- Shooting Star: Opt for “Continue the Ascent” late on to get the Part of a Whole ending.
- The Voice: Complete the game in Free Solo mode.
- Kami, Pickup Pika, and Yukai Tent are all included with the Deluxe Edition DLC.
Keepsake Locations
Some keepsakes are hidden and require you to find and collect them:
- Tenzen Keepsake: Located in the tutorial area, on the top of the number eight climbing wall.
- Alpine Cola Keychain: In The Shortcut area, near an abandoned cable car station, inside a broken vending machine.
- Trout Keepsake: Found in large bodies of water like The Waterfall or The Mirror. Walk into the water, press the prompt to dip your hand, and grab the fish that swims into your palm.
- Frog Keepsake: Inside a cave near a large child statue in The Child area. Lick the frog when prompted to claim it.
- Troglodyte Amulet: Found inside the large child statue in The Child zone. Inside, locate the statue’s feet.
- Chimes Keepsake: In The Vault area, at Shepherdess’s camp. It’s near the bookshelves.
- Troglodyte Doll: Built from three parts:
- Part One: On a small rock behind the Vault, near The Child area, accessible by rappelling.
- Part Two: Outside a triangle-shaped cave in The Terraces, below the entrance.
- Part Three: Above the large child statue in The Child area.
- Crystal Shard: Obtain by giving four shards to the Crystal Cutter inside the Palace of Wind. Each shard is found in specific spots:
- One behind the Cutter on the floor.
- One on a ledge to the right of the Cutter.
- One on a wall in Cairn.
- One inside a room at the bottom of stairs surrounded by yellow crystals after entering the Palace.
- Troglodyte Badge: Inside The Dome’s interior, after the scene with Damas, head to the stove area and find it on a nearby table.
- Troglodyte Pennant: In The Child area, inside a house after waking up and leaving the room, follow the path to a new area with a stove. It’s on a table there.
- Climbot Keepsake: Automatically received after repairing 15 Pitons with scraps. Failing to perfect the piton placement provides scraps, which you turn into repaired pitons at your tent.
To collect these keepsakes, explore their designated locations carefully, and some require specific actions like rappelling or making story choices. Once obtained, they can be attached to your backpack as a personal touch during your climb.
