Every Silent Hill game has featured some survival horror elements, but Silent Hill f takes it even further. This time, it’s not just about managing your supplies. You need to prevent your weapons from breaking, keep enough healing items for your health and sanity, and ensure your inventory space isn’t full.
You can’t pick up everything you come across. Instead, your limited inventory forces you to use items wisely as you find them. Some items don’t stack easily, so you might want to keep a few just in case. Luckily, you can expand your inventory, which helps manage your items better.
How Do You Increase Your Inventory Size?
There are various aspects of Hinako that you can upgrade, like her health, stamina, and sanity. These can be increased using Ema Plates and Faith, with choices on how to allocate your resources.
Inventory capacity can also be expanded. It’s done by discovering specific items scattered throughout the game. Each one increases your inventory slots. It’s a straightforward process, but missing just one item can hurt your chances, especially since some areas can’t be revisited after you leave, so explore thoroughly.
Warning: You cannot drop items and pick them up again later. Discarding a chosen item is permanent.
What Is the Maximum Inventory Size?
At the start, Hinako has only eight slots in her inventory. Most items can be stacked up to three times, but rarer items like Kudzu Tea can’t be stacked at all. This means you’ll reach your limit quickly if you’re not careful.
Your inventory can be increased up to 12 slots during your first playthrough, making it easier to carry a variety of items. In New Game Plus, you can add two more slots, reaching a total of 14.
Where To Find Items to Expand Your Inventory – First Playthrough
There are six total items you can find to upgrade your inventory in your first run. Four are available initially, and two more become available in New Game Plus.
All these items are unique, so keep an eye out. Missing any initial items doesn’t prevent you from getting the others later; they will either appear again or be replaced with other objects like chocolate or dried carcasses.
Item 1 – Shoulder Bag
The first upgrade is the Shoulder Bag, found early after receiving the objective to go to Rinko’s house. It’s located at the end of an alley, in the corner of a dumpster by a wooden fence. Be cautious, as two mannequin enemies may appear after you pick it up.
Item 2 – School Bag
The second item is inside Ebisugaoka Middle School. You only visit the school once, so make sure to pick this up before leaving. It’s inside Suga’s locker, which has the code 505 — a consistent puzzle element. If you miss it, you can return after the Otherworld sequence, as long as you do so before exiting the school.
Item 3 – Dirty Drawstring Bag
The third expansion item is found during the Otherworld sequence just after the school, making it the only one outside the real world in your initial playthrough. It’s located on the second floor of the main hall, past a section you must clear by focusing on walls to make them fall away. Once you gain that ability, revisit this spot to find the bag behind the newly revealed wall.
Item 4 – Furoshiki
The last initial expansion is in Shimizu Residence III, near the end of the game. Enter the house’s west side, find the kitchen, and the Furoshiki will be waiting there.
Where To Find Items to Expand Your Inventory – New Game Plus
In a New Game Plus run, there are two additional items to further increase your inventory capacity. These are found early, so you won’t miss out if you look carefully, but you won’t be able to return to get them later, making thorough exploration even more important.
Item 1 – Packing Tips
This is a book, not a bag, that teaches you better organization. It’s located in a house just downhill from Hinako’s original home, on the eastern side near the water pump. Initially locked, it becomes accessible later when you hear children laughing as you approach. Head inside and upstairs to grab it.
Gathering this and other related goodies can also unlock other game endings.
Item 2 – Embroidered Drawstring Bag
The final upgrade item is found inside a room during your second visit to the Otherworld, once you acquire the Naginata. There’s a door marked with Inari’s symbol that you couldn’t open before. During the New Game Plus, with Hinako still wearing Inari’s Brooch, you can enter this room to find various items, including the Embroidery Drawstring Bag, which maxes out your inventory to 14 slots.
