If you’re looking to take a break from battling outlaws and stealing gold from nobles, there are plenty of relaxing mini-games in Crimson Desert, such as fishing. Aside from providing a peaceful way to unwind by the water, fishing is also a good way to gather fish for cooking or earn extra silver if you prefer a vegetarian approach.
Before you can start fishing, you’ll need to get a fishing rod. Here’s how to find one, along with where to buy fish and start fishing in Crimson Desert.
Where to Buy a Fishing Rod and Fish
To begin, you must acquire a fishing rod. The earliest place to find one is at Alden’s Provisioner Shop in the center of Hernand, across from Rhett and the Smithy. Enter the shop and talk to Alden, who sells a fishing rod for 15 copper coins.
Alden also offers other tools like mallets, brooms, axes, and rakes. This is a good way to replace these items if you accidentally sell or lose them. However, most of these items can also be picked up for free at Greymane Camp starting in Chapter 3, if you’re willing to wait.
Alternatively, you can visit one of two fishing stores in Hernand:
- Hailard’s Shop – Located at the Rodbel Fishing Dock in southeastern Hernand, after you liberate the area.
- Finley’s Shop – Situated along the river south of Hernand, near the dock where several people fish.
You might also find a fishing rod at a fishing spot, either by finding or stealing one.
To start, you can buy basic fishing rods, or upgrade to The Claw, which makes fishing easier with automatic reeling.
How to Get Started with Fishing
Once you have your fishing rod, head to a suitable fishing spot with your inventory open. To fish, equip your rod by selecting it from your inventory using the left on the D-pad or arrow keys (or use the mouse wheel). Hold LT/L2 or Q to prepare to cast your line.
A small icon will appear indicating if you can cast: red means you cannot, while blue shows the spot is ideal for fishing. When ready, hold the same button again to cast.
After casting, wait a few seconds until you hear three splashes. When the option to hook the fish appears (usually with RT/R2 or right-click), select it quickly.
There will be a brief delay between the splashes and the hook opportunity. Once hooked, move your right stick or mouse in the opposite direction the fish is pulling. When the fish changes direction, let go briefly to give slack in the line, then pull again in the opposite direction.
The process involves fighting the fish, so patience is key. When the fight ends, reel in the fish carefully—don’t rush, or the line might break.
Catching and Cleaning Fish
Mastering fishing takes practice, but eventually, you’ll be reeling in fish with ease. After catching a fish, you can clean it. To do this:
- Hover over the fish in your inventory.
- Hold the ‘use’ button.
- Select the ‘clean’ option.
Cleaning fish grants you fish fillets and Abyss Cores. Make sure to clean your catches to get the most out of your fishing efforts.
