As with many of Hazelight’s past games, Split Fiction features a mostly straightforward narrative journey, sprinkled with a few optional adventures off the main path. You can find side stories, extra dialogues, and some charming easter eggs along the way, but there aren’t many collectibles to gather as you work your way to the end.
However, thanks to its combination of lengthy levels, diverse mechanics, and challenging boss fights, finishing Split Fiction can still take a significant amount of time, especially if you aim for that elusive 100 percent completion. Here’s what to expect in terms of game length.
How Long To Complete The Main Story
Completing the main storyline of Split Fiction took us around 12 hours with two players of similar skill levels. This game is best enjoyed with family or friends, especially those new to gaming.
This means your actual time commitment could vary greatly based on who you’re playing with and their game experience. For instance, our editor-in-chief, Stacey Henley, clocked in at about 25 hours, which is significantly longer than what we predict most players will experience.
While we typically include How Long To Beat averages, that data wasn’t available during the editing of this piece.
This game offers a blend of platforming, combat, and boss encounters throughout each level, making it longer than both A Way Out and It Takes Two.
How Long To Complete All Side Stories
Split Fiction includes a total of 12 side stories, which are optional levels integrated into the main narrative and each brings you to unique settings with their own gameplay elements. You’ll need to seek these out on your own, often requiring some minor platforming or puzzle-solving, but the game doesn’t conceal them.
Keep an ear out for conversations between Mio and Zoe, as they often hint that a side story is nearby, encouraging exploration.
In terms of duration, we didn’t find any side story taking more than 15 minutes to wrap up. Therefore, if you aim to explore them all in a single run, plan on adding a solid couple of hours to your total playtime.
How Long To Achieve 100% Completion
To finish Split Fiction including its main story and side adventures, expect to spend about 15 hours or so for most players, depending on the skills of those involved. Additionally, there are several unique trophies throughout the game that require you to complete specific tasks.
These trophies can be easily overlooked, and although the game doesn’t track them for your completion percentage, you need them to earn the Platinum Trophy. Fortunately, Split Fiction has a user-friendly chapter select feature, allowing you to revisit any level and checkpoint you’ve completed. It takes about an hour to go back and experience everything the game has to offer.
