Many fans of Resident Evil know that once you finish the game, the urge to start a new run is irresistible. Capcom encourages this behavior, and Resident Evil Requiem is designed to make replaying even more rewarding.

So, what exactly do you keep when you begin a New Game+? Let’s go over the details.

Warning: Spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem ahead.

What carries over in RE9 New Game+?

Special Content Is Key

After beating Resident Evil 9, you’ll earn some extra points, called completion points, which are awarded when the game takes you back to the main menu. Here, you can access a special menu where you can purchase equipment and weapons that will carry over to your next playthrough.

What carries over for Grace?

Your basic gear does not carry over, meaning you’ll need to earn important tools again in your new game. This is especially important for Grace since she starts with limited weapons. But, using your points to buy some items before starting again can give you a big advantage.

All the items you buy will be available at the in-game item box, which you’ll find early on in the Care Center after completing the first hallway puzzle and the fight with a big monster.

What carries over for Leon?

Leon’s experience with NG+ is quite different. Once you finish your first run, you’ll be able to upgrade and tune his equipment from the very beginning of the game. You can even access a supply box right at the start during the city street sequence.

This means Leon can equip better gear early on, making the initial parts of the game more action-packed and easier to manage. Plus, special content items can also be obtained early in his next playthrough.

Why are special content items important?

Grab a Few for Grace

What you choose to spend your points on is up to you, but it’s highly recommended to invest in special content for Grace, especially if this isn’t your first run. One of the most valuable items is the Kotetsu, a knife that never breaks. This frees up inventory space and saves you from constantly replacing knives.

Another great buy is the Matsuoka Master Manual, which increases the capacity of the blood collector and allows for better crafting recipes. Since all the blood deposits reset in NG+, this manual becomes a game-changer and stacks with the previous manual from earlier in the game.

Gear for Leon

Leon starts with a modest arsenal, but you can acquire additional weapons, including:

  • Ghost Grudge
  • Redemption
  • Clatter Carbine
  • Mortal Edge
  • RPG-7

If you enjoy cosmetic upgrades, Resident Evil Requiem offers costumes for CP that are purely for appearance. For veteran players comfortable with the game, spending points on outfits may be a fun way to personalize your experience rather than upgrading weapons.

Special tips if your first run was challenging

If you faced difficulties with Grace or Leon during your initial playthrough, consider buying one or two special content items for each character. These will help you tackle tough sections like the Care Center or Raccoon City more easily in your second run.

Making smart purchases before starting a second game can make a big difference. Focus on equipment that boosts your chances or adds fun cosmetic options, and enjoy your next journey through Resident Evil Requiem!
