Exploring thoroughly is essential to make progressing in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers easier, especially since the game is known for challenging even experienced players. One important item you might come across early on is the Courtyard Key, which is not marked on any quest tracker, so you’ll need to investigate and ask NPCs for clues about its location.
In Shu Sanctum, after speaking with all the NPCs inside the shrine, head down to the village outside by crossing an invisible bridge. Then, turn left and follow the main path until you spot a narrow, shady road on the left. Take this road into the village. Be aware that there will be several enemies here that you need to defeat before talking to the key NPC, as they might block your conversation.
When you arrive in the village, look to the left where there’s a campfire in front of a house with papers on the door. Knock on that door to speak with the woman inside. After some conversation, she will ask for your help. Agreeing to assist her will ensure she gives you the Courtyard Key. She will also provide useful information you can relay to Tao Qing for additional dialogue options.
Once you have the key, head back to the main road from the village and turn left. Follow this road until a Y-intersection, then take the right path to face a steep hill with a gate at the top. Climb the hill, defeating two dogs and a rifleman along the way to proceed into the village. Before reaching the top, take the short detour on the left side of the Y-intersection, guarded by a shield-wielding monster. This is where you’ll find a chest containing the Skyborn Discipline Benediction.
At the top of the hill, locate the large building in the center of the village complex. The Courtyard Door is on the left wall of the open-air area inside, marked by red paper on either side. Use the Courtyard Key to open this door. Inside, you’ll find some rewards, including a Militia Set—found on a corpse on the second-floor balcony—and a Damaged Letter, which you can retrieve by reading the journal in a bedroom beyond the corpse. Keep in mind that the area around the Courtyard Door is heavily guarded by riflemen, and it’s useful to disable some using thrown items like Fire Pots or Flying Daggers for a safer approach.
After obtaining the Damaged Letter, return to the woman in the village who requested your help. Show her the letter, and her dialogue will eventually end with her moving to Reverent Temple, although she doesn’t physically appear there afterward. Her quest concludes with no direct reward, but if you give her a Dough Figurine of Yang Zongbao—dropped by the torch miniboss at the courtyard—you’ll receive a Burnt Meat item once her dialogue is exhausted. This figure is part of a side quest and can be useful for other interactions in the game.
