Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo and amiibo cards can be very helpful for your island adventure. If you have a collection of Animal Crossing-themed amiibo, or even Zelda-themed ones, you’re in luck. There are three main ways to use them in the game, and they can also be used in the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Besides being a fun way to make use of your NFC figures, they can also help you make progress in the game. Here’s how the amiibo features work in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The primary way to use amiibo in the game is through the campsite. Once you upgrade from a tent to a building, you can add the campsite by talking to Tom Nook. After it’s built, visit Resident Services and use the Nook Stop machine to invite villagers via amiibo and amiibo cards. You can even invite Zelda-themed amiibos to bring in Zelda villagers like Mineru and Tulin, and unlock Animal Crossing Zelda-style items through Nook Shopping. However, you can’t invite special characters like Resetti or Digby, nor Isabelle, as she stays at Resident Services. Regular villagers, though, can be invited, and amiibo cards are especially useful for this. When a character visits your campsite, talk to them, and they’ll usually ask you to craft a souvenir using a DIY recipe. If you do this enough, you might persuade them to move in permanently. You need to invite a character several times and only one per day, but it’s worth it if you’re targeting a specific villager.
You can also visit Harv’s Island—called Photopia—by using amiibo. To get there, go to the airport and request to visit Harv’s Island, which is a peaceful place run by Harv, a photographer character. You can use your amiibo or amiibo cards to summon different characters to pose for photoshoots at Harv’s studio. It’s a fun way to interact with your favorites, and traveling there is free. Later, from the next day, you can buy posters of these characters from Nook Shopping to display in your home.
Another feature is The Roost café, which becomes available once you’ve upgraded your museum significantly. You can use the yellow amiibo phone inside to invite villagers or special characters for coffee. They might even bring friends or family. This can be a nice way to socialize and build relationships. To do this, just tap the right amiibo or amiibo card on the phone, provided you have the correct one.
Whether you want to invite specific villagers, photograph your favorites on Harv’s Island, or bring characters to your campsite, amiibo and amiibo cards are useful tools. They add fun and variety to your island life and can even help you meet your game goals more easily.
