The adorable and engaging MMO Palia recently launched its new expansion, Elderwood, adding a wealth of exciting mechanics and a large area for players to explore. With numerous quests, creatures, and new items to gather, there’s no shortage of activities to keep you occupied while you enjoy the scenery. Among the new elements is the introduction of relics—potent gear designed to help you accumulate Elderwood’s new currency, Infected Essence.
The Elderwood expansion offers a lot of fresh content for players, including magical potions available from Tamala and the option to craft a personal stable board to enhance fast travel. The Elderwood-exclusive content mostly depends on collecting Infected Essence, which can be exchanged for items from Tamala and Subira. You gather this essence by engaging with the infected wildlife in the new area. Although this can take some time, the process is significantly streamlined due to the addition of relics that provide substantial boosts for you and your team.
How to Obtain Relics in Palia
Trade Artifacts for Tokens to Acquire Relic Schematics
Relics become accessible after you purchase their crafting recipes from Elouisa at the Elderwood Central Stable, following the completion of the quest “Pieces of the Past.” This quest will familiarize you with the artifact and relic systems. Elouisa and Caleri will guide you through donating artifacts. Handing in your first artifact grants you one of Elouisa’s Fun Bucks, which can be exchanged for either a relic schematic or the Artifact Tracker.
It’s advisable to prioritize getting the Artifact Tracker before purchasing any relic schematics, as it simplifies finding artifact locations. These spots will appear on your compass and can be accessed using a gardening hoe. Once you locate them, you can submit artifacts to complete various bundles, earning additional Fun Bucks as a reward, which can then be used for relic schematics.
You can trade duplicate artifacts with other players at the trade booths situated at the Elderwood Central Stables, helping your friends and others complete their bundles.
Each relic schematic unlocks a new quest from Elouisa, guiding you through the items needed to craft the relic. After gathering the necessary materials and purchasing an Enchanting Runestone from Tamala, you can create the relic at the Relic Crafter table in the Elderwood Central Stables.
Functions of Each Elderwood Relic
Four Unique Relics, Each with Distinct Buffs
Palia features four specific relics, each granting a different advantage to you and your team. Once crafted, these relics can be upgraded, with each having four tiers. As you progress through these tiers, the benefits of the relics increase, enhancing their effectiveness.

I’ve found that the Bag of Illusion is great for solo players as it makes gathering Elderwood resources much simpler without the need for special ammo. On the other hand, the Guiding Lantern and Elderwood Idol shine in group settings, as the buffs benefit all members, improving tracking and gathering of Infected Essence.
How to Equip and Upgrade Relics
Equip and Upgrade Relics at the Central Stables
To equip a relic, head to the Elderwood Central Stables, open your inventory, and find a new accessory slot located between your glider and pet sections. Click on it to open a pop-up where you can select your relic. You can only equip one at a time.
You can buy upgrades for relics from Elouisa’s stand at the Central Stables, using Elouisa’s Fun Bucks. Each upgrade requires certain materials, which you will need to gather from the Elderwood area. After collecting the necessary items, return to one of Palia‘s Relic Crafters to create the upgraded relic.
