The “Road to Unova” event in Pokémon GO presents an exciting chance for trainers to enhance their collections leading up to the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova, scheduled for March. This nearly week-long celebration kicks off on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 10 AM local time and concludes on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 8 PM local time. It follows smaller events with limited rewards, like the Scattered To The Winds event.
This event is essential for trainers, thanks to an array of bonuses and brand-new features. It includes the debut of shiny Pokémon, enhanced spawns of specific Pokémon, modifications to raid availability, and egg-hatching opportunities, along with numerous tasks for players to undertake. Below are key details you should know about the upcoming “Road to Unova” event in Pokémon GO.
All Pokémon Debuts During The Road to Unova Event
Ticketed Opportunity for a New Shiny
While the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova promises several exciting debuts, the Road to Unova event itself won’t feature new Pokémon, but it will introduce a shiny debut. A new paid research option will launch with the event, guaranteeing a meeting with Shiny Meloetta after completing all designated stages.
This research task series, titled “Masterwork Research,” has no expiration date. Once you purchase the ticket to access it, you can finish it at your convenience.
Tickets for the Masterwork Research are available for $4.99 or the equivalent local currency and will be on sale until Sunday, March 2, 2025. Meloetta was first introduced at a previous Pokémon GO Fest and, while it may not be particularly useful in battles, it remains very rare, having only appeared during special events.
Increased Spawns & Wild Encounters During Road to Unova Event
Six Additional Encounters for Trainers
Throughout this event, multiple Pokémon from the Unova region will enjoy increased spawns in Pokémon GO. This includes the three region starters: Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott. While they have appeared before, this is a fresh opportunity to catch them, each with the potential to be shiny. Additionally, their evolved forms—Servine, Pignite, and Dewott—will also spawn at a lower rate, offering candy to facilitate their final evolutions.
Other Pokémon will appear during the Road to Unova event, but without the enhanced spawn rates of the aforementioned Pokémon.
In addition to the Pokémon mentioned, an extra five Unova Pokémon will hatch from 2km eggs during the event. The Pokémon that can emerge from these eggs will shift from their usual selection to Roggenrola, Timburr, Karrablast, Shelmet, and Larvesta. Note that only the eggs collected during the event will have the chance to yield these Pokémon, regardless of their hatch timing.
Raids During the Road to Unova Event
Exciting Legendary Pokémon Available
This event also revolutionizes raids, presenting trainers with an array of rare Pokémon. The three starters—Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott—will be featured in one-star raids, easily tackled by solo players. Druddigon returns in three-star raids, while five-star raids will rotate through various Pokémon throughout the event, replacing the standard Pokémon GO raid lineup for February 2025.

During the five days of the Road to Unova event, the Pokémon featured in five-star raids will change daily. This lineup includes various Legendary and Mythical Pokémon from the Unova region, most of which can only be caught in five-star raids, making them extremely elusive. Additionally, all five-star raid Pokémon have a chance to be shiny, so if you’ve yet to catch any, this event could be your best shot. These raids will require teams of trainers to successfully defeat the Pokémon, although they can be participated in remotely using remote raid passes.
Rewards During the Road to Unova
Visual Enhancements and Bonuses for Every Trainer
Alongside the increased Pokémon availability, the event includes numerous bonuses. All participants will only be required to walk 1/2 the usual egg hatch distance for any eggs placed in incubators during the event. Additionally, the maximum number of remote raid passes per player will rise to 20 each day throughout the Road to Unova.
Visual updates will also be introduced for all trainers during this event. New special backgrounds will be available for players when they complete five-star raids. These backgrounds are obtainable after successfully capturing any of the five-star raid Pokémon.
At the beginning of the event, the Pokédex in Pokémon GO will receive a visual overhaul as well.
All players will receive a special tour pass at the start of the event, allowing them to accumulate points for ranking up and acquiring additional rewards during both the Road to Unova and the main tour itself. There will also be paid tickets available during the event, which include exclusive timed research and other bonuses for completing raids, like earning 5,000 XP for each raid.
Timed research will be open to everyone during the event, regardless of ticket purchases. These tasks will reward encounters with the Legendary Pokémon participating in the five-star raids, making them particularly valuable. Additional timed research will yield encounters with various Unova Pokémon as well.
The Road to Unova is shaping up to be an essential experience for trainers in Pokémon GO, offering a shiny debut, increased Pokémon spawns, and rare Pokémon in raids.
