Unlocking Vehicles in The Sims 2: A Step-by-Step Guide

As you create a family in The Sims 2, you may notice that public transport isn’t always reliable for getting to work, dropping kids off at school, or having fun with friends. While it’s convenient to have a job that provides transportation, sometimes having your own wheels is the way to go.

Show off your status in The Sims 2 by building a garage and getting a car. We’ll guide you through the easy steps to own a vehicle and keep it in a safe spot, so you can cruise to work with flair.

How To Get A Car

To buy a car for your sim, you’ll first need to add a driveway to your property. You can find this option in the build menu under the garage icon, where you’ll see driveways and garage doors, and even a helipad.

Choose the longer driveway that has a small bar at the bottom. The larger part of the driveway fits onto your lot, while the smaller bar hangs over the sidewalk. Make sure it connects to the street and provides enough space for your sim to back out.

Once you’ve set it up, you can purchase a car from the miscellaneous section in Buy Mode. Here’s a list of the available cars:

After selecting your desired car, move it into the driveway to finalize your purchase. You can then assign an owner by clicking on the car. Additionally, for 250 Simoleons, you can have a sim get a car alarm installed, which takes an hour of in-game time.

How To Build A Garage For Your Car

If you prefer not to leave your car out in the open, building a garage is a great idea. This process is similar to constructing a house, but it requires a few extra steps. You’ll need to use multiple driveways. The shorter driveways without the overhang are meant to be extensions.

Once you’ve placed an extension behind the initial driveway, you can proceed to enclose that area with walls and a roof. Don’t forget to include a garage door to allow the vehicle to be driven in and out easily. When your sim drives, they’ll pull up into the driveway to securely park the car inside.

How To Buy A Helicopter

Cars are nice, but if you have plenty of extra cash and space, a helicopter can be a far more exciting way to travel. Why not treat yourself to one and show off your achievements?

Just like when you add a driveway, you’ll need to build a helipad on your property. It requires quite a bit of space, so make sure you’ve cleared enough area first. Once the helipad is in place, return to Buy Mode, access the car menu, and locate the helicopter. Just put it on the helipad, and you’re ready for takeoff!
