In the Crossroads hub of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, memories play a vital role in various side quests, including one called “The Wolf’s Call.” As you delve into the hidden past of the rebellion against the Elven gods led by Solas, you’ll come across this specific memory. To uncover its full meaning, however, you’ll need to navigate a challenging puzzle embedded within it.

The Crossroads offers numerous side quests as you investigate different areas. Before diving in, think carefully about which companions to bring with your main character, as some allies in Dragon Age: The Veilguard may complement your chosen class better than others.

How to Begin “The Wolf’s Call” Puzzle

Defeat Enemies to Advance the Side Quest

You can initiate the “The Wolf’s Call” quest while engaging in another mission involving companion Harding. During the quest titled “An Unfamiliar Sense”, you have the option to return to Arlathan Forest, located within the broader hub. When you take a boat from the Caretaker to Elvhenan’s Haven, make sure to steer west instead of east, postponing Harding’s storyline for the time being.

10 Important Beginner Tips for Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Whether you’re new to Dragon Age or a series veteran, there are a few key things you’ll want to understand before starting The Veilguard.

Taking the western route will lead you to an alternative portal, which transports you into a memory, activating “The Wolf’s Call” instead of “An Unfamiliar Sense.” Here, you’ll witness a character named General Felassan gearing up a squad of soldiers for combat. This scenario leads you into an arena where you’ll need to battle several elven soldiers defending the Elven gods against Solas’ uprising.

Each elven soldier you encounter is resistant to fire damage but vulnerable to electric attacks. Use the appropriate elements to quickly dispatch them, as they are your only opponents in this quest.

With upgraded gear in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, this encounter shouldn’t be overly difficult. After you emerge victorious, a conversation between Solas and Felassan unfolds, leading into a large chamber filled with imprisoned elves – who you must free to unravel the puzzle of this location.

Solution to “The Wolf’s Call” Puzzle

Grasp the Fade’s Logic for Success

To liberate the prisoners in this memory, you first need to activate a power crystal to unlock the main gate where they are held. This requires you to collect a Wisp for the crystal, which can be found behind another gate that you’ll need to open. Minor mistakes in Dragon Age: The Veilguard can complicate this puzzle, so be careful as you look for solutions.

Interact with the power crystal to have it follow your main character, then descend the stairs behind it. You’ll find more stairs to your left and right, with the right path revealing the Wisp behind bars. Each path has a node at the staircase’s base, where you can insert the power crystal into either node before progressing.

Solas is a significant returning character in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with a rich history in the franchise leading up to his current situation.

Continue backtracking until you spot another staircase leading up to your right. This path will direct you to a power projector emitting a beam of energy like that of the floating crystal. Interact with the projector to redirect its beam at the other empty node where you didn’t place the power crystal earlier.

Once both nodes are powered, the gate blocking the Wisp will open. Just approach the Wisp to prompt it to follow you, then guide it back to the main gate at the prison’s entrance where you originally found the power crystal. Accomplishing this will free all the prisoners, solve the puzzle, and lead you to the concluding fight of this side quest.

Defeating the final enemy in this memory will provide you with deeper insights into Solas’ rebellion. Additionally, you’ll earn a Wolf Statuette item in Dragon Age: The Veilguard for completing “The Wolf’s Call” puzzle, which unveils extra secrets once you collect up to six of them.
