Where to Find the Scholar’s Shield in Elden Ring

You can purchase the Scholar’s Shield for 2,500 runes from the sorceress Sellen, who is located in the basement of the Waypoint Ruins.

To reach the Waypoint Ruins, head east from the starting location in Limgrave, near the Stranded Graveyard. Navigate through a small ravine that leads to the Dragon-Burnt Ruins until you arrive at the Waypoint Ruins, which are adjacent to the Mistwood region.

Upon entering the basement, you’ll face a mini-boss known as Mad Pumpkin Head. This formidable opponent can inflict Blood Loss with its attacks, and its large head provides it with substantial defense.

It’s advisable to maneuver around this boss and aim for its back or legs for optimal damage. After defeating the boss, you will be able to access the back door and meet Sellen in her laboratory.

Engaging with Sellen and expressing an interest in sorcery will initiate her questline, allowing you to acquire the Scholar’s Shield sorcery for the cost of 2,500 runes.

Scholar’s Shield: Stats and Requirements

The Scholar’s Shield is classified as a Glintstone sorcery that magically enhances a compatible shield, thereby providing significant defensive upgrades.

This spell requires 10 Intelligence to cast and can only be used with a staff, costing 30 FP per activation.

You can maximize its effectiveness by utilizing the Glintstone Academy Staff. To cast the spell, simply hold a staff in one hand and a compatible shield in the other.

Once activated, the Scholar’s Shield decreases your Stamina consumption by 35% and boosts your overall defense by 30% (with 70% resistance to magic) for a duration of 60 seconds.

Using the Old Lord’s Talisman can extend the spell’s duration to 78 seconds, while the Greatshield Talisman can further amplify physical defense by an additional 44%.
