In Hello Kitty Island Adventure, players can utilize various helpful tools, with some being more challenging to acquire than others. One notable tool is the Pickaxe. Although it’s not essential to gameplay at the start, especially when compared to items like flippers or snorkels, it’s wise to pursue the Pickaxe early on to prevent complications down the road.
Once you craft the Pickaxe, you can use it to break through obstacles, particularly those found in the island’s mines and caves. Since players won’t access this item until later in the game, honing in on it requires completing a significant quest first.
Requirements for Unlocking the Pickaxe
Build Friendships at Big Adventures Park
To access the quest needed to obtain the Pickaxe, called “Revive The Oasis,” players must complete several tasks. Initially, you need to boost your friendship with Pompompurin and finish the quests named Dessert-ed Boat and Parched. Achieving level 4 friendship with Pompompurin is sufficient, and both quests are straightforward – completing the latter even introduces the soda machine feature.
If you encounter difficulties accessing these quests, you can check the quest tracker in your menu to identify any obstacles. Sometimes, if a character is already involved in another task, it can temporarily halt your progress. The quest tracker will clarify what’s preventing advancement.
After completing those quests, the next step involves reaching level 11 friendship with My Melody. This process can be tedious, considering you can only give three gifts daily, and unlocking top-tier gifts in Hello Kitty Island Adventure takes time. Focus on giving the best-quality gifts available. For an early 2-heart gift for My Melody, the Pink Latte is a great option, made with Candlenut and Strawberries using the Espresso Machine at Hangyodon’s Comedy Club.
Although it may be tempting to skip time to rank up your friendship with My Melody more quickly, avoid doing this at all costs. Time skipping in HKIA can corrupt your game and damage your save file, leading to the loss of functions like multiplayer.
If you wish to speed up your progress without resorting to time jumping, you can use Friendship Blossoms to reset a character’s daily gift limit. These rewards can be obtained through special scenarios or included in the Start Bundle of the Deluxe Edition of Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Once you’ve fulfilled all requirements, the quest to obtain the Pickaxe, “Revive The Oasis,” will unlock and be ready for you to begin.
Assist My Melody in Reviving the Oasis
Use a Pickaxe to Clear a Boulder
When embarking on the “Revive The Oasis” quest, My Melody and Keroppi will guide you to a location where a boulder is blocking a water source. After exploring the cave from an alternate entrance, you’ll discover that the boulder is stuck and cannot be moved. Following a failed attempt to dislodge it, Chococat will arrive and offer you crafting plans for a Pickaxe to break the boulder.
To forge the Pickaxe, you’ll need 10 Woodblocks and 3 Iron Ingots. The Iron Ingots can be created from Iron Ore found on Mount Hothead, and Woodblocks can be made from Sticks or Coconuts, available around the resort. Once you have all the materials, visit a crafting bench to create the Pickaxe. With your new tool, return to My Melody and break the boulder to complete the “Revive The Oasis” quest.
Now that you have the Pickaxe, you can access it via your tool wheel. Look out for breakable boulders throughout the island, as they may conceal secrets or treasure chests. Additionally, if you’ve yet to unlock the final Critter List for the Nature Preserve in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you’ll soon be able to break the boulder in the penultimate room, where the final list awaits.
