Unlocking the Ornate Pargrun Key in Avowed's Shatterscarp

If you’ve taken the time to explore the areas of Dawnshore and the Emerald Stairs in Avowed, you’re probably familiar with the Pargrun Cache structures. There’s one cache in each region, and they’re home to some of the most challenging puzzles in the game.

Each Pargrun Cache has three or more chests, but accessing them can be tough, especially in Shatterscarp, where the puzzles can be quite complex. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you retrieve all the chests.

Locating the Shatterscarp Pargrun Cache

To find the Shatterscarp Pargrun Cache, navigate to the eastern side of the map, marked as Shark’s Teeth. You’ll already need to visit this area for the main quest, so it won’t require any extra travel.

Once you reach the southeastern part of Shark’s Teeth, look for a well-preserved building containing the cache. Access is straightforward: gently jump down onto the rubble.

Exploring the Shatterscarp Pargrun Cache

The first chest is located near a secluded area glowing with purple light at the top of the structure. After collecting that chest, jump down onto the rubble again and land on one of the wooden beams. Follow these steps next:

You’ll notice a cage at the same level as the wooden beams. You can break it using either a frost weapon or an Eye of Rymrgand. This will unlock the main chambers.
Once inside, rotate the wheel on the right side to open a door below. Then, set the left and right levers to the up position while keeping the other two down. This will open the door on your left, revealing a purple chest.
In the new room, find another entrance concealed by a switch on the structure to your right. Activating this will grant access to a golden chest and the Ornate Pargrun Key. The golden chest contains a rare clothing item.
Next, drop down to defeat the enemies before claiming the main golden chest contained within the cache. This will reward you with Skald’s Brigandine, a unique piece of armor.

Using the Ornate Pargrun Key

After acquiring the Ornate Pargrun Key, make your way back to the Shark’s Teeth camp or Tago’s Tower beacon. From here, head to the area just above where "Shark’s" is labeled on the map. You’ll encounter a large locked door as you enter this area.

While you can use the Ornate Pargrun Key to unlock the door, don’t expect rare treasures inside. Instead, you’ll find the body of a Pargrun builder alongside some purple-rarity items.
